Oh boo hoo hoo. Do you need a tissue now?

Regarding Obama driving negatives of Romney, this is the funniest "knuckledragger" argument yet. No S # ! t he's going to run campaign ads pointing out Romney being a pampered sissy who's taken both sides of every issue within the last 5 years. Why wouldn't he? Unlike Mittens he's also running positive ads too. Problem with you righties is you want every Dem candidate to be in the Dukakis/Kerry mold, as in not willing to fight back. As I've told you dinosaurs before, we're playing to win and if you can't take the heat get lost. Its only going to get worse for Mittens, and no there won't be any attacks on Mormonism. There's plenty more legitimate issues to roast Romney on!

EDIT: Such as this one. From the Brookings Institute. Turns out Mittens tax plan cuts taxes for the top 5% while raising them for the rest of us! Swell, Mittwit but didn't we try upper income tax breaks in the early 2000's? How did that work out again?

Religious beliefs are fluid over long periods but at any given time they appear to believers to be eternal. You don't have to oppose gays to be a Christian any more than you used to have to oppose Jews to be a Christian. Like everything else, religions have fads. Christianity is currently coming out of a homophobic fad. Post-homophobic Christianity will still be Christianity (in particular since Jesus never said a word about the subject). But none of that will change the heart of a believer at any given time. The only thing that can do that is exposure to people who defy their stereotypes: experience trumps theory.

The thing that makes it uncomfortable is there is a transition period when people raised with the old belief system feel their world is crumbling. The same happened after the prohibitions of slavery and segregation and during the southern and eastern European immigrations to the US, and during the women's movement. There's no evidence that the people raised with the old belief system ever adapt; they are just replaced by the next generation which sees the old view as repellent.

Having bigotries instilled at birth does not make somebody a bad person; it just means they like everybody else are in part a product of their age. The only way to handle transition periods is to do the right thing with the law and actively counter the old narratives in public, but in private let people just be people. The chicken man has his beliefs, burned into him by his upbringing, and he will never understand their consequences are so hateful. Look at the rest of the guy's life -- his company is exemplary, he treats his employees great, he pays for their tuition. Paradoxically you can even see his moral quality in him taking this stand in public even when it will hurt business. He's clearly a very good man who harbors this one very evil belief. Christians have an answer for that, too: hate the sin, love the sinner.

Why is it bigotry to believe that marriage should only be between opposite sexes??

Because in doing so, you're saying that an entire class of people doesn't have the right to marry their lovers. It's not an inclusive point of view - it's an exclusive point of view, pure and simple.
If you don't change the world today, how can it be any better tomorrow?

Not sure why you find that so exalting. Most of us people in the center merely say "a pox on both your houses."

In many cases, the argument probably does stem from some unconscious bigotry, though I would suggest not in all cases. Many people support civil unions for any two people above the age of consent to have spousal rights regarding inheritance, hospital visits, survivor's benefits, etc. and say "marriage" is strictly and only a religious ceremony. We've danced this dance before.

No point in trying to suggest anything new to someone who already knows everything, eh?

Again with hearing violins in the air. What did Mittens think, he was going to go through the entire campaign without anybody saying anything mean about him? I guess if you grew up in luxury with servants, private schools, and the like you might feel that way. Unfortunately as Prez our enemies aren't going to be as kind to him as his hired help is.

BTW - You are so far away from the center you can't even catch a bus back to the center. Give it a rest already.

I would go further than that and say it is setting up a hierarchy of people, superior (approved) and inferior (unapproved). Our public institutions and our government should be VERY VERY CAREFUL when assigning privileges based on such categories, and that should be the very essence of a conservative philosophy of civil liberty.

Regarding Chick fil a...boycott away. Its a great cornerstone of capitalism. Company representatives that make bad moves deserve to lose make their company lose business and/or get fired. They'll survive the boycott as their social conservative target customer is perfect for their totally fried menu.

Not calling out the right on this? Negativity has been the right's playbook for years. You can have listened to right wing media for the last 20 years and scarcely heard a positive comment about anyone.

Also knows as: one way ethics. When they do it "that's just politics." When their opponents do it "that's unconscionable!!!"

In economic data released today, bad news for the GOP, good news for America.
