He was safe, but if you insist... make 12 pack a day Jimmy run him instead of being a decoy. I'm sick of his overmanagement.
It's not a matter of jim sending him because he has the green light about 65% of the time, but he has to be comfortable with going. In other words most of the time it's on him to go or not. What i've been impressed with is how he has adjusted and improved himself significantly in pretty much every phase of the game.

I don't think he has carte blanche to steal anytime. Leyland wasn't going to take the bat out of Cabby's hands in that situation. This umpiring crew has been awful to boot and that call was on par, and, of course it happened right after Rod piped in with the "he doesn't have a good move to first at all."
Berry, if he did have the green light, waited too long during that at bat to go anyway. Why take a ginormous lead if you are shackled OR if you choose not to run?

agreed it was late. Actually if you ask me, the lead should be the same whether you are going or not otherwise you are telegraphing and out. But yeah 2-1 is the ideal count to go on depending on the pitchers stuff and what has been thrown up to then. And really, in Boston you have to expect that they are going to get the calls most of the time.

Thank you, Cleveland outfielder brought up today. Line drive hit out to him in left, just as he's running in on it he ducks out of the way and it gets by him for a triple along with a run scored. On the replay he had his sunglasses flipped up, despite playing left field when the sun should be in his eyes anyway.
