If its something to hang over Canadians I'm happy. The Canadians seem to have some interest in this tournament so they are upset as this post on another board attests:

          literally losing to this roster

Canada's got a number of all-stars on their roster.

I don't even recognize more that half our team.

Besides that, every Canadian will tell you that their 5th team could beat our best.

This is a good win and Canadians are embarrassed right now although they'll say that this tourney really doesn't matter - since they lost.

Either way, they wanted to win and they didn't.

They would whine about losing to ANY United States team. Hockey is the one thing they have, short of the occasional skier, knuckledragger, or skater.

I watched bits and pieces of the first two periods, then caught the last 30 seconds from the Rangers radio feed. The color guy was adamant that "the reffing once again ruined this game and caused the Rangers loss."

I figured if that was the case, jmh would be here whining up a storm. I saw the ovechkin hit but were there other instances where the refs didn't call things right? Or are the rangers radio guys just a couple of crying homers?

I do agree that after comparing rosters, this was definitely an upset. I'm just a little hesitant to celebrate because the woman's team also beat Canada, then lost in the champ game in OT. You expect them to meet again so it's tough to be overly celebratory. If it was an elimination game you'd see much more excitement.

Oh, I agree. This is a win in the preliminary round of quite possibly the least important of international tourneys (to the west anyway).

They're so over the top arrogant about hockey up there though that I'll take any win, any time. All the better that it was a win by our 4th string team.

I was pleasantly surprised that we didn't lose by 5, so a win was nice.

That's the big thing here, I thought we'd be lucky to keep it close.

Compiled some evidence for the Rangers case.

                        1. Hagelin getting 3 games (Suspension was warranted, but 3? No previous history whatsoever.)
                        2. Carkner getting only 1 after going Randy Couture on Boyle.
                        3. Neil's punk shenanigans not even getting fined. (Including headhunting Boyle.)
                        4. The kick and sweep on Hank in game 6 that would make the Cobra Kai proud.
                        5. Ovech-Kommie's hit on Girardi.
                        6. (most glaring) what seems to be a penalty for the Rangers isn't a penalty for Ottawa/Washington. (See interference call that Kreider got while Lundqvist gets swept away, but Neil with no call.)

Consistency is what we all want. I may have hated Gregson and the older refs, but they at least were consistent. These younger ones aren't that good.

I just watched a retrospective on the Can USSR Summit series on NBCS. It was the first time I had watched anything of such detail and it was wonderful. Unfortunately I don't see it listed for a replay.

It's been on a lot, that was their "signature" piece right after the name change from Versus to NBCSN.

It may not replay soon, but it will keep airing.

Specifically in yesterday's game, I remember a Capital slash breaking a Ranger stick that didn't get called, but when the Rangers did the same thing it was called. I think there was a time Washington got away with too many men, and again with what should technically have been delay of game. And of course the Ovechkin hit-though that was penalized. Just seemed to be some uneven calls.

I watched it last night after the USA/Canada game.

I got chills on more than one occasion. Great documentary and epic chapter in hockey's history.
