Let's not give him too much credit. He only did it because ESPN made him...

So freaking what if he's queer? It means nothing to his job of putting the ball into the hoop. Hell, if he was a hockey player, would they have spent as much time on it??? Its a blurb of a story at best.

I think ESPN handled this completely wrong but I'm Abe to disagree. This is a big deal. As much as people want to just move on this is the first pro athlete to come out while actively playing. Others have come out after retirement but this is a big deal in the "macho" sports world.

I thought Glenn Anderson on the 94 Rangers was known to be gay during their cup run, but wasn't "out" about it.

That said, I agree with you. Many athletes are exceedingly homophobic, be it because they're showering with their teammates, or they don't like the idea of a tougher guy than them being a "fairy." How this plays out could be a signal for other gay athletes to come forward while still active, or they'll go back into hiding. They'll be like Tom Cruise and his affinity for closets.

Maybe not have one of their anchors promote fear mongering? Just a thought.

He's not an anchor, he's an editor at ESPN the Magazine. That said, Broussard's thoughts on homosexuality were known...no way he should have been asked to comment.

Ding. He was put in a ****ty position. The producer of the show should be the one under fire.

Or Broussard should have listened to the little voice in his head that was telling him "maybe you shouldn't say this out loud."

That's what he SHOULD have said. No harm no foul. But, he said more than he needed to. Yay for modern media personalities.
