  • Re: Nice Planet 2011

Good news, TSA is going to start cavity searching retirees and school kids on Houston's busses. Dig through the b*ll sh*t and you find Congressman Sheila Jackson Lee out front, taking credit for this security "improvement."

Why am I not surprised? She's the lame brain who proclaimed North and South Vietnam at peace with one another, and getting along swimmingly. This idiot used to be a professor.

Oxymoron of the week: the article references TSA's "counter-terrorism expertise." Are you sh*ttin' me, herm?

A guy I worked with in Houston was the highest paid performer at the Houston Ren Fair. He was a fencer, who had trained in Paris and, based on the performance I saw, was pretty darn good. He had no use for a similar (at least to me) group called the Society For Creative Anachronisms. Generally harmless. But on one occasion Ric ran into several of them after a performance. They had been drinking and began acting all chesty and wanting to challenge him. He agreed, but told 'em before they started, he wanted a glass of alcohol so he could dip the tip of his foil so as not infect them. They had a change of plan at that point.

Another proud moment for TSA in its relentless efforts to protect air travelers from 4-year old girls.

At some point these imbeciles "called for backup" to deal with a crying little girl.

Who knew that yelling at a 4 year old child would result in the child beginning to cry? *facepalm*

Shut down a whole airport for a child throwing a tantrum? That's not excessive at all. I'd have told them to go for it, cause that wouldn't have made the news EVERYWHERE that night: In other news, the Wichita airport was shut down today because a 4 year old child threw a temper-tantrum while going through the security checkpoint after being yelled at by a TSA agent. I can't imagine Cronkite ever having to report anything so stupid.

Of particular interest to me, apart from "calling for backup" for a four year old, was their theory that granny had passed a firearm to the child. Honest to God, Barney Fife strikes again.

Sent the whole family to the end of the security line and make them all go through again. Problem Solved.

At some point a reasonable person would conclude these aren't random, annecdotal events. They are what logically happens when herds of morons are turned loose on an unsuspecting defenseless public. A 7-year old girl and her family missed their flight because TSA goons insisted on a "thorough" search in their customary East German border guard fashion. She suffers from cerebral palsy, but we can't let any sympathy or common sense be part of this equation. Right? Rules are rules. Did I mention she's also developmentally challenged? I find myself wondering what is going on behind the face plates of these imbeciles, if anything.

Heh. I fenced for Cornell, and every so often one of the SCA creeps would think of trying his hand for real. Most of them didn't last one practice - the descent from cocky "I'll show these white-suited wimps how to fence" to sulky "I don't want to play this game" was dizzying.
If you don't change the world today, how can it be any better tomorrow?

Ric referred to them as "anachranoids." The Ren Fair in Houston is a very big deal, 30K visitors and more a day for several weekends. But then, what do you do the rest of the year with your little sword with the jelly bean "jewels?"

If we don't pat down 7 year olds with cerebral palsy, it's only a matter of time before Al-Qaeda finds 30 7 year olds with cerebral palsy to fly planes into buildings.
