I have a tough time believing that Leafs fans, especially ones over 30, would ever been completely converted to a new team; even a local one. I think any new club in Toronto that manages to put together a playoff team would suffer from "Ottawa Senators Syndrome". Meaning they'd have to slowly build a fanbase of younger people, and in the meantime they will be the team that many Toronto hockey fans will hitch their wagons to once the Leafs are on their annual slide.

Similarly, if the Leafs manage to make the playoffs next year, I think you're going to see a fair number of Sens "fans" suddenly heading up their attics and picking the dead maggots out of their Gilmour, Clark, and Potvin jerseys.

Yeah, those of old enough to remember the glory years of the 60s would never support a new team, but my boys (in their 20s) might. WHEN the Leafs get back to the post season I'll be digging out my Errol Thompson sweater.

DALLAS — A bid has been made by a minority business group to purchase Atlanta Spirit, which owns the NBA's Hawks, the NHL's Thrashers and Phillips Arena, for $500 million, those bidding told USA TODAY.

The Spirit already are in the process of selling the NHL franchise to Winnipeg. When the Thrashers officially vacate, the bid then would be adjusted downward.

The CEOs of Global Wellington Financial Corp. and Oriana Capital Partners put forth a bid May 20 to acquire both teams and the arena before the 2011-12 NBA season. The new ownership group would be called W/C Holdings.

Next stop Europe. Maybe have teams make one month-long trip (8-10 games) every year? Or just create a European NHL from scratch, allow player movement, and only meet in the Cup final?

Re-create the Victoria Cup, have the champions from the NHL, KHL, and the other elite leagues play.

If they manage not to botch the jersey (I trust no team in this) and they keep Hainsey on their roster then I'm in for a jersey and a Winnipeg-Caps ticket next season.

I like 2 of the 3. The script "Jets" tries to be retro, but it just looks outdated and not cool.
