It's all over but the Nuremberg Rallies.

The bestest part is it's a time bomb with a hidden timer. Will the Police State fall on immigrants or the Tea Party or Occupy or blacks or atheists or gays. Which way will the Wheel of Hatred turn?

It's extra exciting when you don't know what's going to happen...

Was it under the authorization of Obama? Probably. But I guess I'd take that over the right's need to kick off yet another war.

Why would you assume that they never tested it before?

But the real question that should have been asked is why was our drone flying over Iran?

The potential 'benefit' is the detection of a nuclear program. So what...what are we going to do about it? Invade? Good luck...that would make Afghanistan look like a walk in the park. Instead, save the billions on the drones program, give me a grand and I'll tell you the Iranians are working on a nuke program.

This part is a very valid lead-in to a very interesting discussion....

Getting an aircraft to do what you want (whether to fly or to self-destruct) is always a game of probabilities.

For commercial airplanes, any failure mode which could potentially lead to a "catastrophic" (i.e. loss of the airplane) event must be shown via analysis and backed up with test data to show that the probability of that event occurring is less than 1e-9 (i.e. less probable than 1 in a billion). But, in the words of Jim Carey, "So you're telling me there's a chance!" There's no way to guarantee that an airplane will not crash - that would be trying to prove a negative - so all you can do is ensure that it is very unlikely.
