That greenhorn is a moron. You try to sucker punch Freddie?!!?!? I mean, really, Freddie!!??!?! Yeah, hes gone.
I really feel for Jake. He just wants so bad to get better and be better and work towards his shot at being a captain. I have a feeling that things arent going to work out on the Kiska Sea. The crew is just never going to accept him. And part of me thinks that captain is just going to string him along and never really teach him what he needs to be taught and truly give him the chance to learn.
While the greenhorn is a moron, Freddie is being an ***. I would never want to work on the Wizard everyone is a bunch of miserable jerks.

I have to agree with you. I think Freddy is taking it way, way too far, just being a total p r i c k, and while the greenhorn may be a little full of himself, Freddy is the one who started all this crap.

When the captain asks you to do something you do it. The greenhorn should have just done it...but how the Wizard reacted to it especially Freddy is just complete crap. I doubt any other boat would have treated the kid that way over a haircut.

It could have been more the haircut too. With the way they edit things we may not have been seeing other issues with the greenhorns. Who knows. A greenhorn is going to take crap no matter what boat he is on, especially if he refuses to take part in a tradition. That being said, Freddie should know that he does not need to take it that far, and if not Kieth should have stepped in.
Of course greenhorns get treated like crap they have to earn their stripes. But I doubt it is editing that makes Keith and his crew look like epic ******s every season. Every greenhorn they get somehow turns out to be just horrible enough for them to **** on.

Keith did step in, he punched the kid. Wonder why he never punched Jonathan back when they had their fight? Oh yeah he's a big *****

Did Keith really insist on the kid getting a Mohawk, or was it just the crew? I haven't noticed anyone else on the boat over the years with a Mohawk...that seems like a new "tradition" which one would not expect from someone who has been a captain for as long as Keith has. He has his superstitions - getting a haircut hasn't been one.

It still seems strange to me that greenhorns who go on the Northwestern or Time Bandit almost always work out and those on the Wizard almost never do. Maybe Keith should employ better hiring practices?
The Mohawk deal comes from the Cornelia Marie when Freddy was a deckhand there. It was in an early season right around when I began watching but they were stuck on terrible fishing so Freddy shaved his head (along with a few others) and their luck changed so it became a tradition. When Freddy moved to the Wizard he brought it with him.
Of course Captain Phil didnt shave his head nor do I remember him making others do it it was just sort of accepted. Keith is not known for being understanding...

I wouldn't expect Keith to get a haircut (although that would be hilarious) but has he bought into the whole "Mohawk = Good luck" superstition, or is it just Freddy? It isn't doing something against the captain if he never asked you to do it. It's going against something Freddy wants you to do, which I would think is a far lesser offense. Since he is the one causing 99% of the problems, I would guess this is closer to reality. Didn't Keith even say at some point that the kid didn't get a haircut which was something Freddy really wanted? He didn't say it was something HE wanted the kid to do.
