  • RPI Engineers 24-25

New thread, just in time for the first game, Sept 21 home exhibition against University of Windsor Lancers, who were 11-19 last year in the Ontario conference of Canadian university hockey (USports). Looks like the game will be carried by RPI TV. Anybody know who will be carrying ECAC conference and non-conference games this year? ESPN?

All the games will be on ESPN+ as they were last year. Personally I wish they were on RPI TV which simply does a great job. I am anxious to see how the team looks especially on defense. New goalie with Rampado gone but i think the defense will be solid. Trnkova was exceptional last year and the addition of Helgeson could make this the best defensive corps for us in recent memory. Just hope we can find ways to score.

Girls won 6-0 but really difficult to know how to interpret this. Not sure how to judge the level of competition. But we did a lot of things well. Not many mistakes and certainly nothing major. Goaltending was split and both made all the saves required but were not severely tested. We had 16 forwards play and used 5 different lines which also made it a bit difficult to follow. In any case, nothing really bad to say and a lot of good hustle shown especially by one line that accounted for i believe 4 of the scores. Perhaps we will learn more next week with Holy Cross in town.

Unimpressive 6-0 win against a very weak opponent to start the season, but it is September, so I need to chill. Positives: McCutcheon, Christoff, Bailey line...they know how to hustle around the blue paint. Larsen will be a stud on D this year. Kaiser and Trnkova will be leaders for this team but didn't do much today. Goalies (Keating and Ambrass) were not tested. Surprising absences: Helgeson, Erbenova, and Brunet did not play, but with the size of this roster you can't dress everyone. Barring injury, I would hope to see all three against Holy Cross.

Needed your input - glad we were seeing pretty much the same thing. I had no clue about Windsor which made it hard to gain anything from the game. From my perspective, at least we handled them without giving up many chances while scoring on the rebounds that were presented to us.

I really appreciate your growing involvement with the women's program over the last few years Dr.D! You have some very good observations about the team. It is a different game from men's hockey, but in my view it is more entertaining, and the RPI program always attracts young women who are serious scholars and serious athletes.

Actually been involved since the 90's (the Acropolis years). Good to see her daughter #15 out there today having a couple of chances in front of the net. I too am anxious to see the girls that were not dressed for the game today in the line up for the Holy Cross weekend.

What should we expect from the this weekend's home games vs Holy Cross? Engineers should win both games, but HC was competitive last year against ECAC lower tier teams and will not go easily into the night. Would be concerned if Engineers dont come up with 2 wins, but it won't b easy.

I think having played last week, we might see a little more cohesion from the ladies. I am hoping to see a polished and coordinated defensive side for the team. I will be watching the goal tending and defensive pairings since I suspect this team will have to be led by how well they perform. Scoring might be more of a challenge and while I do not expect for the girls to be able put up 6 as they did in the exhibition, how much offensive pressure they can exhibit will be of considerable interest. I have no idea what HC brings to the table as i think this is their first games of the season but I too, believe we should be able to get 2 victories this weekend if we play to our potential.
I have been unable to find any betting odds for these games.

Agree with all of this Dr. D. You are focused on the D, which is what will win most of our games this year. But I am focused on offense, where we need to produce more results. I think that Kaiser has the potential to do some amazing things. coaches need to encourage Christof and others to be hard nosed in driving to the blue paint, while others like Chioffi can provide some finesse and Phillip will provide amazing speed and great forecheck. And we should get some offense from our D (Trnkova, Larsen). Lots of upside for this team.

I agree and although I am focused on the defense and goal tending, I think this team can score as a group. They may be able to have 3 or even four relatively productive lines if the coaching staff can utilize what they have and find the correct on ice combinations for chemistry. Jenny and i will be at our usual local pub for the game tonight and can only hope they still carry the ESPN+ feed as they did last year.

Tough 3-2 loss tonight. Some very weak goaltending accounting for at least one if not 2 of the goals but the real problem was being called for 8 penalties and being 2 ladies short 3 separate times each for an extended period of time which finally gave rise to the last goal. We came out very slow with a rather poor first period but after that seemed to control th eplay and actually took a 2-1 lead early in the third period. We only skated 5 defensive players and several ladies were not suited up for the game. Hopefully we shall see them tomorrow. The good - we got quite a bit better as the game went on and deserved a better fate . The bad, you simply cannot take 8 penalties and especially give the refs a chance to put you down 2 players 3 separate times for more than a minute each time.
Tomorrow we play at 3:30 PM and hope for a better outcome. Go red!

Nice rebound game today with a win 2-0. Both goals scored by Trnkova and for most of the game they were in control. Keating with the shutout and although not a plethora of shots, had to make a couple very tough saves. On to Sacred Heart next Friday for a 2 PM game.
