What is an average DIII HC salary these days?

Kind of a big snub that the national runner-up isn't in the Top 5.

And Cortland is pretty bitter being so far below a team they beat twice late season.

Why underwhelming? She was an assistant so knows the program. Playing experience is decent and she has likely been exposed to high level coaching. You start somewhere and it's a positive move to hire from within. Many "experienced" coaches can be underwhelming. Time will tell.

Maybe, but the overall resume isn't up to Plattsburgh's level yet. They need to do it for an entire season, not just a couple of games in March. Besides, it's preseason and they'll have their chances to move up.

I agree, I just know that's the reaction to it from those in the Cortland camp.

MCLA has hired Chris Donovan as their Interim Head Coach for this season. Donovan had retired after 24 seasons as the only head coach of St. Michael's women's program, the 5th longest tenure in NCAA WIH.

Nazareth posted a message aimed at high school grad goalies doing a postgrad year at the prep schools/clubs that they are looking for a netminder to come in midseason. Unspoken but any goalies already in the portal but haven't made a move could also inquire...

Nazareth hasn't posted their roster but on paper for goaltending they have McKinley Hoff eligible for a 5th year and sophomore Rebecca Mullahy plus an incoming freshman Jersey Graham from Northwood.

A source has told me that Mullahy needs hip surgery and transferred closer to home in MA as such. Depending on if Hoff is using her 5th year the Golden Flyers may be down to 1 or 2 goaltenders.

Now this is a very very underwhelming hire, to steal that word from someone else. I just looked up his history and the most wins he had in any season was 8 wins in a 24-year career at St. Michael's College. That 8-win season was 16 years ago in 07-08! Their website shows a new AD within the past year who obviously doesn't accept losing as much as the previous AD did, so it appears he got rid of Donovan to find someone else who might be more committed to winning. This guy is a relic! Wow! MCLA is in for a tough ride.

Isn't the bigger issue why is the applicant pool so "underwhelming"?

                        • A lot of the candidates one might consider good have a gig at this point and MCLA might not be a place worth leaving right before the season for.

Plus they are calling him an interim. They may go another direction come April

That was my underlying point. At this time of the year the applicant pool is pretty small. I also wonder at the DIII level if a "coach" can't make a better living tapping into the youth hockey AAA/skill coach money grab.

I think you're right to some degree. It is highly dependent on the institution to my understanding. There are some youth hockey gigs that pay more than some of the lower tier DIII HC. Look at the former DIII coaches who are working for Carla Pentimone's recruiting advisor outfit rather than getting back behind the bench...

                              • Norwich defeats new program Keene State in a 5-1 exhibition. Not terrible for the debutantes considering Norwich beat Utica 6-1 in their first exhibition of 2024 and the Cadets mollywopped Salem State 9-0 this past January.
