Northland has hired Jake Bobrowski as their new head coach. I'm wondering whether his reputation can outweigh the uncertain econonic future of the college.

If what I heard about his tenure at Elmira is any indication it won't be a fun season for the incumbent players but if he sticks around and Northland hangs on as a school this could be a decent turnaround of a pretty bad program

Massive hire for Northland with the school's future still a little murky. This is an extremely tough job, but he has the elite pedigree. It will be up to him to be able to build a stable culture from the ground up and recruit to a tough place. He won't be able to hide behind Darwitz any longer, or fall back on the Elmira name to get recruits.

He'll also be in a conference with his former player and assistant Bre Simon, also a new coach for 24-25 at UWS.

It's Northland; Jokebrowski will never turn that program around. Nobody can do that. It's just a coaching job until a better one comes along. If he had stayed at Elmira more than one season he would have caused irreparable damage to that program. He was already on his way toward doing that in only one season especially in the post-season! It was a good thing for that team he left when he did.

I would agree that given a very small student population with limited degree offerings and known financial issues it would seem impossible to get this program to be competitive. Did WIAC just make them an affiliate member out of sympathy?

Didn't they go to the national championship a year after he left on the back of the goalie who he stole from Plattsburgh ?.... pretty irreparable damage I'd say lol!

There’s a ton of politics with the whole WIAC/NCHA breakaway. The WIAC is still fighting for that autobid a decade later. Northland was the closest school geographically and the one they could easily poach given their lack of resources. I also think being 1 school closer to an autobid now, really pressures Stout to start a women’s program. Possibly La Crosse/Oshkosh add hockey in general.

It's hard to understand why Stout doesn't have a women's program. Seems a natural fit considering history on the men's side and proximity to the other WIAC programs. I do think getting players to Northland is a hard sell. Similar to the Finlandia situation.

I'm sure he has applied for the Augsburg job already.

Bobrowski might regret having taken that job already.

To imply that Bobrowski "stole" Beaubien is a bit much. Houle clearly didn't feel confident using her during her senior year after her meltdown after giving up the first goal in the semifinal against GAC at the end of her junior year, and she by all reports wanted to move on from a negative situation for her if she was going to use her 5th year.

Plattsburgh only having two goalies last season was a function of a 2nd freshmen goalie who was set to come in decommitting after getting into Purdue's engineering program which is very highly regarded.

....so did he land the recruit or not? To imply he almost ruined the program that finished national runner up 6 months later might be the worst take on this board I've ever seen! That poster should just worry about another mediocre year in Minneapolis.

That last part I agree with you on, I just disagree with the notion Beaubien was "stolen" as opposed to she wanted to go, entered the portal and Bobrowski recruited her like any other player in the portal.

Most of the problems I heard about JB at Elmira was in how he treated the players he didn't want around. Then there were a couple of players who he didn't intend to push out who decided to leave because they didn't like how he went about it. But I do think you're right that the implication of him ruining the program is hyperbolic. But I also don't know we can give him 100% credit as some players are recruited as juniors so we don't know which of the freshmen were Bobrowski's vs Crowley's.

I think the grade will always be an Incomplete for his tenure at Elmira.

I suppose I meant stolen more as it was a steal out of the portal that turned into Jordan Binnington at the right time last season, then stole her off their roster.

Fair enough on the rest. Roster turnover with a new coach isn't really that unheard of, but I suppose it is case by case, player by player and how it makes them feel.
