I sadly didn't get to watch as I had an event yesterday evening.

      In other action:

Plattsburgh had their best offensive game of the season in a 5-1 win over Morrisville. Cards jumped to an early 2-0 lead on goals from defender Su An Cho taking the puck from the point of the Mustang's O-Zone all the way to the low slot around the Mustang D and firing it home. A few minutes later Wall passed from the end boards behind the net to a waiting Ruegge outside the paint who put it home. The Mustangs then got one back when Plattsburgh High grad Avery Holland scored the first of her collegiate career. Plattsburgh got that one back in the period when Riggi took a beauty of an entry pass from Orr and beat the D through the left circle and put it home.

2nd started with Cards freshman Morris on some rough forechecking getting the puck in the O-Zone corner causing a mini scrum but was able to feed it to the point. Morris impressively was able to make it from the halfboards to the crease by the time Su An Cho took a hard shot from center point and Morris buried the rebound on the play she created to make it 4-1. After that I had to leave and could only listen and It sounded like the game got very chippy. Lewis was taken out for the second straight game after she was hit from behind playing a loose puck at the red line. Mustangs got a major for that hit and the Cards a minor for Fessette who tried to avenge Lewis immediately after. Lewis was down a while, so Stetson came on but it seems like she only made two saves in 27 minutes? The 2nd seemed like a parade to the box. Only goal was a Norton PPG to make it the final 5-1 score. Not much of note happened in the third.

My takeaways: I feel like if this was the between championships era when I was a student and Houle was more experimental with the skaters that Su An Cho would have been moved to wing by now in her career. She skates and shoots like a forward when she has the ice time and opportunity to play the puck forward, and she's the most vulnerable D when the Cards have to defend. She actually got beat along the boards in the first today and it left her D partner Balfour and Lewis in goal defending a 3 on 1. Conversely a forward like Ella Fessette with her great speed and defensive stick would make an outstanding defender. Scoring 5 was much needed but the power play was kind of anemic, though by the time they were getting all those PPs they were probably not as focused because of the anger at the chippiness and the game was already out of reach for the Mustangs.

Elmira and USM skated to a 4-4 tie. Leonie Kuehberger allowed 4 goals on 13 shots from USM vs Haley McKim allowing 4 on 51 shots. Elmira held every statistical advantage outside shooting percentage and still had to settle for a tiebreaker point on the shootout win.

SNC defeats Trine 1-0 on a goal from Lexi Bonfe. Trine goalie Annie Kindseth made 60 saves, joining Potsdam goalie Parent and Castleton goalie Bakopanos as the third goalie with 60+ saves this week.

Speaking of 60+ saves, Tia Card of Hilbert made 68 in a 10-1 loss to Chatham. Neither team won a game coming into the game. So that makes 4.

Potsdam took a 1-0 lead midway through the first but similar to Lakers' tie against the Cardinals, Oswego would make a comeback. Pethrick tied it for the Lakers early in the 2nd and then Oz broke it open with 5 mins left in the third with goals from Bednarik, Pinti and an ENG from McGrath. 4-1 final.

      Hamline shut out CSS 2-0.

A rare non-conference loss for the NESCAC as Nazareth beat Trinity 2-1 despite Naz being outshot 31-16. Guider put the Bantams up midway through the first but Cedrone tied it on a power play in the second followed by Pittis on a shorthanded goal a few minutes later to make it 2-1.

Endicott over JWU 3-1. Fantasia factored into all 3 goals with a goal and 2 assists.

Todays most interesting games imo are UWRF vs Adrian, the GAC/Augsburg rematch and Williams vs Norwich. I also am interested in the SNC vs Trine rematch because given their records SNC should have had a stronger showing yesterday. I'm also interested in Hamilton vs Canton as Hamilton has a 1-3 record and Canton has upset some good teams this season.

      • Gusties getting absolutely pummeled by Augsbur today. I haven’t seen a Gustie team this outmatched since at least 2016. The dynasty is dead I do believe

I’m not too shocked. Augsburg has elite speed and skill and the accumulated talent loss from the last 3 years has finally caught up. The team has talent themselves but truly missing the Vrieze, Press, Holland, McCoy All-American skill level.

I also find it funny the year Augsburg appears to finally get over the hump, is the first one without Michelle McAteer.

Mac was a fine coach, but it’s no secret in MN that she gave preference to a certain “type” of player. It ultimately held her back from hitting the top tier programs like GAC, RF, Adrian.

“Pummeled” isn’t exactly the right word. GAC controlled play for long stretches. Kudos to Auggie freshman goaltender Kayla Simonson for one heck of a performance in net. The MIAC is officially up for grabs. Coach Bauer has this group moving in the right direction, no question.

              • Adrian and River Falls certainly lived up to the hype. I watched this in its entirety and I have to say, it is funny how the feeling out process works in these type of games. It's so rare that these teams find a counterpart that can actually skate with them and it showed with the tight checking up and down the ice. Very entertaining game, but the difference was River Falls has a few more finishers than Adrian IMO. We'll see how the rematch goes this... morning? I think UWRF is starting to find its groove and chemistry after all the talent they lost from last year. It looked disjointed at first, but they're starting to come together.

What the h*ll does this even mean?!! What are you implying? Tell us exactly what you mean by the word "type"! I'm really looking forward to an honest answer.

That's nothing. Another Hilbert goalie, Brook Thompson, made 74 saves in a 15-0 loss to Buffalo State just before Thanksgiving in a game where Hilbert was outshot 89-5. That's insane!

The Hilbert website also shows that the second Chatham game was called with 4:23 left in the first period due to an injury. Chatham was leading 2-0 at the time. Does anyone know what happened there? Hopefully the injured player is ok and it wasn't anything life threatening.

Hilbert has an absurdly low skater amount so it may have just been that losing one of them in progress was enough to call it...

I only saw the first two periods of UWRF and Adrian's rematch and they had the Bulldogs shut down. Must have been one hell of a comeback.

And what happened to Spearl Sputter, the man that made a very bad program even worse?? He only lasted one year at the worst D3 program in the country. Their roster shows only 3 Freshmen so he didn't really do much recruiting for the program. Did they give him the boot?

Hard to play a whole season with 11 skaters.

If you remember my post earlier about Hilbert having to cancel a two-game series at Potsdam because of a lack of enough healthy players, I stated that their roster only shows 15, with three of them being goalies. So, that's 12 skaters. When they are all healthy...

                            • Maybe its early but Hilbert might be the first program not to improve after Utter leaves.

Cortland won the first SUNYAC conference championship and made their first natty. Wilkes is going to be in contention in this first inaugural season for the MAC

I watch a clip of them against Utica. They are in over their heads.
