  • After 2, SNC leads in shots 20-12 but that is a mirage as to how the game is going.

Endicott leads 3-0. I didn't get a great view of the 2nd goal (their first of the 2nd period). It was shortly after the period-opening penalty expired and looked like it may have tipped or taken a funny bounce. The Gulls' 3rd goal was a clean snipe from the circle by Lily Anderson.

SNC had a 1:19 long 5 on 3 but the Gulls kept them off the board.

    • 3-0 Final.

Endicott never closed the shot gap but I'm sure they'll trade being outshot for a 3-0 shutout any day.

SNC let senior goalie Ashley Ommen play the 3rd.

      • Midd up 2-0 after 1. Plattsburgh was doing a good job shutting the Panthers down and creating more chances early on.

Midd broke through when Cardinal third line C Kasprzak decided to skate around the D zone with the puck despite open passing chances. The Panthers forecheckers stripped her in the slot and scored on the broken play. Contact was made with the Cardinal goalie who seemed shaken up after. I must note that all weekend Kasprzak was among the worst offenders when it came to forwards trying to make plays by themselves instead of passing and this time it bit them.

A few minutes later Kate Flynn from Middlebury took a pass and skated around the Cardinal defender and sniped Lewis blocker side.

At the end of the period Lewis was limping off the ice talking to the trainer.

Edit: Midd up 3-0 after 2. Scored on a shot sideways through a crowded crease area that tipped past the freshman backup goalie Ava Varecka. The second freshman goalie Maddy Stetson is going in for the 3rd. Chloe Lewis has not come back out since leaving the ice after the 1st.

        • Seems to me like a tier has separated in terms of national title favorites. UWRF, Adrian, Middlebury, and Amherst.

I’ll say that Augsburg has the skill to maybe join them too. But if they can overpower GAC next weekend (which I think they easily will).

the next tier in my eyes is a healthy drop down: Augsburg (maybe), Cortland, Gustavus, Utica, Elmira, Trinity, Hamline, Norwich, St. Mary’s, Endicott, Plattsburgh, Hamilton, UWEC.

I agree with your view on things, minus the specificity about Augsburg as I haven't had a chance to watch them.

That said, we saw with Elmira last season that the teams in that second tier can go on a run and make it to the last day of nattys

I've had the chance to see Augsburg play. I would consider them to be the favorite in the MIAC based on what I've seen. I think they're a more complete team than GAC and are a level above St. Mary's and Hamline. St. Mary's has some nice top-end talent, but I just don't see them being able to put it all together this season. That being said, it could (should?) be a very competitive MIAC race this year.

If Augsburg and/or St. Mary's can challenge GAC it will be the most competitive the MIAC has been since St. Thomas got booted from the conference around the same time Darwitz and Bobrowski left Hamline.

                • Potsdam upsets #11 Elmira in OT with a 2-1 win. It is only the Bears' 2nd program win over the Soaring Eagles.

Magalie Parent made 61 saves in net for Potsdam. Elmira went with Lindenwood transfer Emily Finach in net and she made 16 saves.

There is only one game scheduled for today in the league: #7 Utica at #2 Middlebury

And that first win was in the conference playoffs. The shot differential for that game was about the same as this latest win.

The OT goal was a beauty. And the first goal was by graduate student forward Kaylee Merrill which was her NCAA-era program record 62nd goal.

Also note, Potsdam senior Megan Mills returned to the lineup while battling Hodgkin's Lymphoma. She got an assist in the game.

That's great she got a point in such a big win for the program. Hope she makes a full recovery.

I will say, Augsburg looks real good, particularly their transfers. But the Auggies have been a fantastic team for years. They just play a bear of a schedule each season.

As quality as Augsburg, SMU, and Hamline are, these teams have been just as good the last 5ish years. The difference is with the Gusties. Some of the all-time best players in program history have left the last three years. It was an all-time run of success, even more so given the top-to-bottom strength of that league. GAC was the pace car that pulled ahead of Augsburg, Hamline and St. Thomas.

Grundhoffer and Brehm have both been nice additions and a couple of the Freshman (including the goaltender) look really good. GAC is certainly down from where they have been in the past, but this is a very solid group from Augsburg. Should be a fun series this weekend.

                          • I definitely will try to make time to watch Augsburg vs GAC if my schedule allows...

Utica hung as tough as anybody against Midd so far. Riley Calhoun actually put Utica up first but Middlebury would tie late in the first.

McManus scored the game winner in the third off a shot from the point. I was listening more than watching as I was wrapping up my work day and the announcer couldn't tell if the puck took a funny bounce or if the goalie was just screened and never saw it.

Calhoun seems to be having a nice season with Utica after transfering closer to her hometown from Plattsburgh. Getting top six minutes for the first time in her career and making the most of them.

Calhoun had top 6 minutes in Plattsburgh late last season and definitely would have this season with the group of forwards they have. I think it was just too little too late...
