  • Got to talk to Coach Muzz at the 18U and College Selects showcase this weekend. Really pleasant to be around and we saw some great hockey. That 18U National team is going to be filthy next season with all those quality 08s and 09s on the roster.

She really gets around. One of the reasons she's built such a successful program here is Ohio State has no problem sending her anywhere she wants to go whenever she wants to scout and recruit. I assume her alotted travel budget is massive.

      • Here's a link to a story on what the NCAA settlement means at Ohio State and our response to it. I find it disturbing the part of we will lose about 150 student athletes due to roster caps.

        • OSU womens hockey will have the ability to offer more $$$ than all the other D1 womens hockey programs in the country. Fantastic for OSU WH. Bad news if your not OSU.

As troubling as the 150 fewer athletes part is the statement that some varsity sports will look and act like club sports. I wish they had given a whole lot more detail on both of those.

Each University's athletic department will decide. The top sports get paid the others become club style non paid.

Yes, and I wish the article had gone into greater detail regarding those choices being made at Ohio State. Because if he's quoting "150 fewer", some of those decisions have already been made.

But the club style sports will still have scholarships?

I'm sure we'll get those details in due time. The article did referenc the rapid change happening which may mean there might not be final decisions made yet on new policy but I'm only speculating.

While the ability might be there it's not guaranteed that the money will go to women's hockey. Seems to me the new frontier is geared toward those sports that have a positive revenue stream. Sports that are a drag on overall cashflow will be the ones that get relegated to "club" status. To be fair the article doesn't give much information on the future impacts of the lawsuit other than there will be changes.

Other than football I can't say for certain if any other sport is in the black on revenue vs cost at Ohio State with possibly basketball.
Given the fact that women's hockey at Ohio State is now one of their most successful and winningest sports thanks to our coach I'm fairly certain they won't be one of the ones operating like s club.

                          • If 100 men get paid then 100 women must be paid. With the revenues made. All WH would be on full scholarship plus cash monthly. Monthly cash could be two thousand or could be 10 thousand.

Where did you see that in writing?

I think that in the future sports that are on national tv and generate large fees from ticket sales are the ones that will gain and the other sports lose out. It's not about NCAA success any more it's all about money.
