2023-24 attendance numbers, tickets scanned vs tickets sold/distributed:

This is interesting - I expect the difference is related to the price of the ticket - and the ability/effort required to re-sell. I for example have 4 tickets, but if/when one of my family members can't make it - I'll put some effort into finding a friend to give the ticket to, but I put zero effort into any type of resell. I suppose it's a bit selfish too - one more seat of room in the arena to stretch out a bit. Not probably the most fair for the girls on the ice who could be missing out on one more cheering fan. Still proud of the actual attendance numbers though! Great place to watch a hockey game!

I wonder if 'no more pdf tickets' - meaning no more people leaving spare tickets on the ledge by the doors for anyone to use - will have a noticeable effect the number scanned next year. I'd love for the AD to come up with some way for people to share those tickets even digitally, but I doubt there will be, Too bad. 'End of an era'.

Also - it's unfortunate that the 2/24 game against Ohio State was a relatively lower attendance number - That was one of the best hockey games of the season. Turning around a less than stellar first period into a 4-2 (with an empty netter) win. Showing they could beat Ohio State, instilling confidence into the post season. Great game.

Some location where we could leave a ticket take a ticket digitally. I'd do that for sure.
I'm not sure how noticable it'll be with no more pdfs. I wonder how many tickets were used off the ledge this year with guests having printed, some digital.

Part of the problem with that I found is that SeatGeek doesn't allow you to resell tickets within a certain timeframe of the game. I've had someone bail in the afternoon and tried to flip them on there for $5 so they'd get used and it won't let you. Since there were still door tickets this year, you didn't often have people loitering near the door waiting for tickets, but that might change next year.

I had a friend who decided last minute that she wanted to go to the Feb 24th OSU game with me, so we got to LaBahn a few minutes before the doors opened. Our plan was that I would go up to see if there were any printed tickets by the door, and she would start asking other people in line if anyone had a ticket that they weren’t going to use. I had only gotten about halfway to the doors when she called me back because she had already been offered a ticket by someone whose wife couldn’t make it.

I really hope they can come up with some sort of simple digital leave-a-ticket/take-a-ticket system, because clearly there are people who are happy to give away tickets, but you can only expect so many people to be willing to go to a game and beg strangers for a ticket!

I’ve also wondered if there would be a way for them to say that your ticket only guarantees you entry until, for example, ten minutes after puck drop. If they look at ticket scans and say that they’re significantly below capacity, sell last minute tickets to people who are waiting. I always hate seeing “sold out” games where there are multiple sections with tons of available seats, and knowing probably the same way for the games where I couldn’t get tickets but didn’t want to take a chance on a printed pdf at the door.

If they look at ticket scans and say that they’re significantly below capacity, sell last minute tickets to people who are waiting. I always hate seeing “sold out” games where there are multiple sections with tons of available seats, and knowing probably the same way for the games where I couldn’t get tickets but didn’t want to take a chance on a printed pdf at the door.

Just ten minutes after puck drop is probably an extreme example (I know I would be ticked if I was going to be on-time but hit a train on John Nolen and lost my seat) but a more realistic version is when my dad and I always thought that they should figure out how many seats remain at the Kohl Center at the halfway point of the third period for hockey (or second half for basketball) and crack the doors open and let that many students in. Really supercharge the crowd for the stretch run of games.

I agree that I hope they figure out the digital equivalent of door tickets so that the maximum are always getting used.

There has to be a way to keep this going, but I'd get the powers that be have no idea this is going on and therefore don't care. MJ didn't even know about it until this season. They should just oversell by 300 or so, but I doubt the fire marshal would approve of that.

Below is the link to the Badger Women Hockey instagram page. Near the top you will see "32k followers" and "242 following" . Click on either and a pop-up window will appear showing you the instagram accounts in that catagory. "followers" are fans of UW WH who want to get 'alerts' when the account posts something. "following" is an instagram account that somebody at UW who controls this account is paying attention to.

These kind of "follows" have actually proven, let's say, significant in the volleyball transfer world, where an athlete starts following a bunch of team members on another team, and they all start following her back. That's can be an indication that the player in the portal made a campus visit and met those players. Or a recruit starts following a team, and a coach or players for that team starts following her back. As best I know, the most recent "follows" appear at or near the top of the list in the pop-up.

For example, the third name down on the "following" list is a Shattuck player named Zahra Nauhaus. (Her account is private, so we can't see who she is following, etc.)

Adding as another example, the top three most recent names/accounts that the Ohio State Women Hockey account is following are Hailey MacLeod, Brooke Disher, and Sara Swiderski. No idea when those "follows" happened, but if they occurred before the players committed, it would have been a clear indication that the commit was coming.

One more example: the most recent "follow" by the Vermont Women's Hockey account is Jane Gervais, maybe "confirming" wheel-snipe-celly's post that that is where Gervais is heading.
