I've had to. Volleyball had to fight for its scraps just like you're fighting for women's hockey. I literally had to fill in as a drummer as an alumni because they couldn't get one for a game before despite having been a trombone player. I remember the only euphonium player for some games after Dan graduated during the middle Pete Waite years was an old guy who had once been in the band and liked showing up. I'm beyond tired of the default argument being turning to a women's sport first for an accommodation and not loudly questions why the vastly inferior men's teams never have to get questioned. (I mean, we know why, but they don't get a pass anymore from me. If you're program sucks, give up your band.)

    • Scannell and Kotlowski are out, Zilisch is listed as the 6D with Venusio, and Grace Bickett is on the active line chart for the first time.

In Maine news, former Badger Molly Engstrom is the head coach, and Brenna Curl is the 6D on the Black Bears.

      • Bella Vasseur got the first goal of her career tonight ... wiped out on a high stick call.

Probably the correct call, but that still stinks.

        • Kuntz is getting the nod in goal and Bickett is 6D with Venusio today. Zilisch listed as the 4th liner replacing Scannell on the Kids' Table.

          • O'B takes a hard check - not called, BTW - goes down hard, is slow to get up and skates to the bench, apparently favoring her right shoulder. The three or so times in the first period the "ones" were out afterward, she was not; McCarthy taking her spot.

Just what you DON"T want to happen on a weekend like this.

She took the opening faceoff of the second. Crisis averted.

Get me to the final horn, and let's get the hell outta there!

                • Watched the highlights from both games. Seems like the scoring was spread out nicely. Got a chuckle from the Friday's night game when the play-by-play announcer didn't realize that they had scored and then blamed it on Wisco's lack of celebration. Wondering if McNaughton got dinged up as timing of goalie switch seemed odd. Two minutes into third and not at goal stoppage in a game that was already a blow out. Then seeing she didn't play Saturday made me wonder.

I didn't even notice watching on Friday that they had made the goalie change (but I was doing three things at once, with the score 7-0 at that point). So I just pulled up the full video.

The Badger had just finished killing a penalty, and then made a try at a 'home run' pass that missed, resulting in an icing. As they are setting up for the faceoff left of McNaughton, you can see her legs/pads at the top of the screen; she ready to go. But then Kuntz skates into the picture, and McNaughton skates away, with no apparent limp or any other problem. The Maine power play had 1:58 remaining when the period started, and the icing was the first whistle after the PP ended. So my guess is they would have made the switch between periods, but then decided to leave McNaughton in for the PK, and then made the switch.

                    • Concerned about an injury to Ava. Very strange she didn't start game 2.

That very well could be the reason and many coaches certainly do that in mid-period situations. Seems like a vote of no confidence in this situation given the break time between periods and how the game was going.

Mankato games will be interesting to watch this coming weekend.
