I feel sorry for the non-BigTen schools who don't get BTN+ coverage, and have to rely on FloHockey. Why wouldn't the AHA get on board with ESPN+ instead?

FloHockey is such a rip off! With BTN+ I have the team subscription for 9.95 a month and if I want to watch a Wisconsin - Minnesota weekend I can add one of those teams for an additional 9.95 and then cancel it after getting a two game weekend cheaper than a single ticket.

My understanding is that ESPN+ would cost the league significantly more to stream the games there, so that's probably a non-starter for the league with its budget.
I do wish that Flo offered a league subscription only, because while you do get a ton of hockey coverage for $150/year, I don't watch anything but the AHA games typically, so I would be much happier to pay $50/year for just those games.

BTN+ is an even better deal if you attend or work for the Big Ten institution in question and can just connect to your campus VPN to stream it for free. Sorry that the AHA schools will be stuck with this. I was going to subscribe for a month when Gophers played at RIT but was shocked by the price.

Grace Outwater was a 50 goal scorer in the PWHL and first player from Eastern Ontario since Katie Rankin. Her brother plays in the OHL. The incoming class should bolster PSU. And in my opinion with Fargo and Flanagan gone from Colgate and Syracuse respectively, Penn State will do better with the Canadian recruits.

Mercyhurst not keeping Boucher for a fifth year was at least somewhat of a surprise and I think Lobdell, Machado and Spring coming back for a fifth year can be a selling point for the coaching staff to new recruits.

That some great news, and Abby Stonehouse is another hotshot freshman forward, so this could be a fun year to watch. I've been too lazy to look very hard at the incoming class and incoming grad transfers, but the team doesn't look too different, and if anything they look to have brought in even a little more offensive talent than they lost to graduation.

They did not raise parking costs for the spring sports but who knows what will happen next academic year. Your skepticism is warranted. My partner's reaction to this news was that they should have done this years ago. I can see this improving attendance overall though especially for families with small kids who are a large fraction of the fan base.

It used to be free parking and $5 for game tickets, and now it's free game tickets and $10 (I think) for parking. But that's $5 less than it cost to go to a game last season, so there's that.

It's $5.50 for parking if you pre-pay the day before 11:59 pm, $10 is the cost if you pay the day of the event. For a family of 4, even if you're paying the full $10 for parking it's $10 for four people to go to a game instead $30 for four people. That's a big difference.

Do you have an idea of why they're giving away tickets, and what's making that possible? The chatter is always about how women's hockey doesn't generate diddly for the schools, so I'm wondering how they're doing this.

They're losing money on all of these sports (and they were bringing in minimal ticket revenue) so they've clearly decided to prioritize attendance. I don't know the financial details but fundamentally football is covering the costs for everything else. Pat Kraft has recently gone on record that he's committed to maintaining all 31 current PSU sports but overall athletic travel costs are going to increase with the expanded Big Ten geographic footprint: https://www.statecollege.com/article...at-penn-state/

Admission has always been free for Penn State students. All other single game tickets (adult/children) were $5 and a season ticket package was $50 for all regular season home games (so $50 for ~16-18 games) which was an even better deal if you were planning to attend most home games.

Penn State is making money off of Football, Men's Basketball and Wrestling. The free tickets are nice. The band was there twice this past year. All these things are positive.
