Well, it depends on what happens next.

One of the comments is a person (Lindenwood Forward Rachel Goff) calling out to a player named Sarah Dravis, a forward from Lindenwood who has her grad COVID year remaining and is currently NOT in the portal (not to be confused with Lindenwood defender Sarah Davies, who is in the portal). If Sarah Dravis were to contact Ohio State before entering the portal, and Ohio State did anything more than simply say "we cannot talk to you", that would be an NCAA violation.

On the other hand, if Sarah Dravis enters the portal and then contacts Ohio State, it would not be a violation. But she'd quite likely be told "thanks, but no thanks". And then she'd be in the portal, having told Lindenwood she is interested in going elsewhere, and may well not be welcomed back onto their team. Possibly having given up any scholarship she had had at Lindenwood, etc.

It is a very weird thing for Ohio State to have done.

It's definitely for people not yet in the portal, because once they are in the portal you can contact them directly. (Players in the portal do have an option to select "do not contact" if they don't want programs reaching out, usually because they know their destination.) And yeah, I don't think it breaks any rules to just yell vaguely in the direction of the internet "HEY WE'D PROBABLY ADD A COUPLE OF FORWARDS" (certainly in other sports coaches are speaking openly in interviews about what they are looking for in the portal) but it does really run against the idea that they have a complete idea of who they are getting in the portal if they are putting personal ads up on Insta.

I think it is a smart move, an I am sure they checked with compliance before doing this to make sure it doesn't violate NCAA rules.

Hmmm, this kinda goes against the narrative that Muzzy has a titanic roster all ready assembled and is just waiting to unleash a roster unmatched in its awesomeness to the world of women's college hockey. I think it confirms some people's suspicions.
