  • Can't believe we killed off six power plays. This early in the season I can't tell if we're that good on the kill or Duluth is that poor on the PP.

Hannah Bilka got the assist on Hartmetz' goal in what was a wonderfully selfless play as she could have skated down and scored the goal herself.
Happiness Is A Hadley Hat Trick!

If you take our shortie into account, UMD was -1 for 6 on the PP!

I'm guessing the phrase "this early" gets to the heart of the matter. Not a shocker that defense is a little ahead the offense in October. Gotta believe the Bulldog PP will jell as the season goes along.

Hopefully it doesn't jell significantly by the time they come to Columbus but it's more important that we don't give them the opportunity to use it.

          • Got our first ever sweep at Amsoil with 2 goals on a five minute major. I was trying to watch and listen on my phone while at our men's game and I couldn't catch all that was said but the Bulldog's commentators were very critical of the call on the major penalty.

            • Yeah, heard the Bulldog announcer saying it was a bad call. Looked like a head shot to me and everyone else at the watch party at O on Lane. The refs had the benefit of replay and possibly better angles than what was shown on tv and they called it a five-minute major. I am guessing if the shoe was on the other foot, the UMD announcer would have said it was a good call.

After a scoreless first period, the Buckeyes got two second period goals on the five-minute major from Hannah Bilka and Emma Peschel to take a 2-0 lead into the final intermission. Neither team could light the lamp in the final frame. Buckeye netminder Raygan Kirk stopped all 16 shots she faced to get the win. Ohio State outshot the Bulldogs in this one 42-16. Eve Gascon got the start in net for UMD and stopped 40 of the 42 shots she faced in the loss. Not a bad weekend when you can sweep #6 in the country on their ice. The Buckeyes will stay on the road and head to St. Paul next weekend to take on St. Thomas. The Bulldogs will head to Mankato to take on Minnesota State.

              • What most impressed me was the defense allowing only 10 SOG on Friday and 16 Saturday. The 5 minute major may have had a slight effect on Duluth's Saturdays stats but from how stellar the defense was maybe they would have had two additional shots at most.
Holding the Bulldogs to 26 SOG in two games was outstanding!

I was impressed with the D as well. We really clamped it down. I am sure the goals will come. We have way too much firepower to struggle when it comes to that. I think what we are seeing is a bunch of new players still getting used to playing together. When that happens, and it will, think this edition of the Buckeyes will be that much tougher to defeat. I like the start to this season. Nothing wrong with splitting with #4 at their place and sweeping #6 on the road. This is just the beginning. This will be a team that gets better as the season goes on.

Don't get me wrong; the Buckeyes will still have the ability to shut it down. I'm just saying the degree of difficulty will increase.

There's room for debate on most major penalties. But yeah, the announcer just couldn't let go of that one. Overall the broadcast was good, but the extended rant damaged his performance.

As the Bulldog announcer, he's supposed to be a bit of a homer. But when "analysis" degrades into stirring the pot, that's kind of a shame.

                      Couldn't agree more. Go Bucks!

I imagine it really stuck in his craw that our winning goal came on that 5 minute major.

                          I don't that's a penalty at all, much less a major. Yikes!

Watching on my phone details escaped me but I did see our player stretched out on the ice. So unless she's a drama major something had to happen.

Yeah, the announcer really embarrassed himself with that comment. I assume you are quoting the announcer on that one as that is what he said. A head shot is a head shot. If an Ohio State player had done that to a Duluth player, he would have applauded the call. My favorite part of the rant was when he tried to say their player didn't even know Kenzie Hauswirth was there. Unless she suddenly developed glaucoma and lost her peripheral vision, she was well aware that the Ohio State player was there. I am not going to get into a debate over an obvious head shot. Those of us who were watching know exactly what we saw, as did the referees. I guess to some of these announcers, it's always open season to head-shot Ohio State players.

There was nothing drama about it. It was a head shot. Thankfully, the refs watched the replay and got the call right. I was pleasantly surprised as I have seen us get head-shot before and the opposing player not even get called. Last year's playoff game vs Bemidji comes to mind when Jenna Buglioni took a cheap shot to the back of the head and nothing was called. Jenna was injured on that play and was not able to be in the lineup the next weekend in the WCHA Final Faceoff but somehow it wasn't a penalty.
