IF Wisconsin were to still be within six points - meaning undefeated between now and then - top seed in the WCHA would be on the line, with UW able to take it based on 7-to-5 standings points.

And *maybe* top seed in the NCAAs, with UW scoring 'quality win' bonus points by sweeping St Cloud, Minnesota, and then Ohio State.

But while possible, all pretty unlikely.

So you are saying I should not be so defeatist.

If we tie, though, I think the Badgers would have the tiebreaker because you would have taken 7 of the 12 points. We had to go into OT in one of our wins down here so we did not get all 6 points that weekend, just 5. Winning the regular season for the second year in a row would be nice and the Julianne Bye Cup is one beautiful trophy, but I want the one they give you if you win the last game of the season.

        • The Buckeyes took care of business earlier tonight as they simply overpowered Bemidji State by a final score of 11-1. Jocelyn Amos and Sloane Matthews struck first for Ohio State and they took a 2-0 lead into the first intermission. Ohio State would get second period goals from Hannah Bilka, Joy Dunne, and Jenna Buglioni to take a 5-0 lead into the final intermission. The Buckeyes were not done as they added six more goals in the third period to take an 11-0 lead. Scoring for Ohio State in the third period were Joy Dunne, Makenna Webster, Emma Peschel, Riley Brengman, Cayla Barnes, and Kenzie Hauswirth. Bemidji State would avoid the shutout late in the game on a goal from Calli Forsberg to make the final score 11-1. The Buckeyes outshot the Beavers by a wide margin, 50-14. Buckeye netminder Raygan Kirk stopped 13 of the 14 shots she faced to get the win. Beaver backstops Eva Filippova and Abbie Thompson combined to stop 39 of the 50 shots they faced. The two teams will wrap up their series tomorrow with game time at 3:00 pm EST.

          • Final Score From Friday, February 2nd
            Ohio State 11
            Bemidji State 1

            Starlight Express: Goal Fest

Honorable Mention: Calli Forsberg, Bemidji State
She who scores last, scores best? In this case, probably not. But Calli's stiff, well placed shot more than earned her a place on the scoresheet.

#3 Star: Jocelyn Amos, Ohio State
Jocelyn launched a fine blast through a defender's legs; the puck went screaming into the upper right-hand corner of the net. That one opened the scoring.

#2 Star: Jenna Buglioni, Ohio State
Jenna set a screen and tipped a shot, forcing an awkward save. Somehow anticipating the rebound perfectly, she swept the puck into the net.

#1 Star: Joy Dunne, Ohio State
Dangle the perimeter; dominate the slot. Speed & Strength. It all added up to a two goal game. Joy was the only Buckeye with two tallies in tonight's Goal Fest.

Up Next: Rematch with the Beavers. On Saturday the Star Gazing Telescope Returns to Full Strength.

Mark Johnson does like the Bye Cup. He says it's the hardest trophy to win in college hockey.

Enjoy the trip through the stat patting games.

Really? You must have forgotten your Linenwood & BC scores eh?

My only problem with our game last night was the error that cost Regan her shutout. You could see the disappointment of the girls on the ice that shift for letting their goaltender down.

I'm not ripping Tosu at all, I truly enjoy those games and you should too. It's fun. It is sad when the shut out gets spoiled.

No worries. My attitude has been a little bit too hoidy toidy lately, I want to try and stay closer to the softer edges with people. I can see where you would have taken that the wrong way based on the way I've been acting lately.

                      • The big news of the weekend is St.Cloud took Wisconsin to OT with the Badgers only taking two of the three conference points. So if we sweep Minnesota State and St.Thomas we're regular season champions and #1 seed.

I agree with Mark Johnson on that. Winning the regular season in this league where there are a minimal amount of easy ones is a great accomplishment. We've had a nice run in recent years, but had not won the Bye Cup until last season. I think St. Cloud helped us out a little bit today by taking your Badgers into OT, but we still have to win our games. Mankato usually plays us tough at home so the Muzzinator will need to make sure we are ready for a battle up there.

                          • Ohio State completed the sweep of Bemidji State earlier today by a final score of 9-1. This was a one-goal game heading into the first intermission as Ohio State's Jenna Buglioni was the only one to light the lamp in the initial frame to give the Buckeyes a 1-0 lead. The Bucks would score the first three goals of the second period to go up 4-0. Scoring those goals for Ohio State were Jenna Buglioni, Makenna Webster, and Jocelyn Amos. Bemidji State got a goal from Kayla Santl to cut into Ohio State's lead at 4-1. Jocelyn Amos would get a goal late in the second period to give the Buckeyes a 5-1 lead heading into the final intermission. Ohio State would get four goals in the final frame to win it 9-1. Scoring for the Buckeyes were Jenn Gardiner, Lauren Bernard, Hannah Bilka, and Jenna Buglioni. Ohio State outshot the Beavers 43-15 in this one. Buckeye goaltender Amanda Thiele stopped 14 of the 15 shots she faced in the win. Late in the game, Thiele was relieved by Lexington Secreto, but Secreto did not face any shots on goal. For the Beavers, Eva Filippova and Abbie Thompson combined to stop 34 of the 43 shots they faced. Ohio State will head to Mankato next weekend to take on Minnesota State. Bemidji will return home to face Wisconsin.

Lexington did face one scoring chance. She stood her ground, and the Bemidji shot went wide.

Granted, an official save would have been nice for the record books. But winning the confrontation did generate a nice cheer from the Buckeye Bench.

Pgb, thanks for the correction on that! Numbers do not always tell the story! Cannot wait to see the Three Stars for this one! This team is special. Cannot wait to see what happens in the coming weeks!
