Shocking Muzzy is allowing this disrespect to her program. She doesn't stand for getting football's crumbs, she wants the whole freaking loaf. Yesterday. Hot out of the oven. With freshly churned butter. From fresh milk cow.

New President and AD have given me hope. President played D1 hockey at the UNSA and is still a huge fan of college hockey. His call sign as a pilot was "slapshot." His arrival and Gene Smith's departure have given me hope that hockey will no longer be the forgotten child of the athletic department.

LOL Timothy! No, can't stir the pot with this one. To be a Buckeye means you embrace football first and foremost at Ohio State. Football is and has always been King here.

            • Ohio State opened this series earlier tonight with a decisive 3-0 victory in front of a raucous, sold-out crowd at the OSU Ice Rink. Kiara Zanon lit the lamp for the Buckeyes in the first period to give Ohio State a 1-0 lead heading into the first intermission. Jenn Gardiner would find the back of the net twice in the second period to give the Bucks a 3-0 lead that they would never relinquish. Neither team scored in the third period, so it ended with the Buckeyes winning this one 3-0. Ohio State outshot Wisconsin 30-19 with Buckeye backstop Raygan Kirk stopping all 19 shots she faced to get the win. Jane Gervais got the start in net for the Badgers and stopped 27 of the 30 shots she faced. The two teams will wrap up their series tomorrow at 3:00 pm EST.

Hot New Release Hits The Market

Do you like Non-Fiction Novels? Check out this New Offering: Brutus v. Bucky: 2023-24. Fascinating Characters. Intriguing Story Lines. An Eager Public, Clamoring for More.

So are we talking Staff Pick? New York Times Best Seller List? Pulitzer Prize?

Much too soon to tell. But Chapter One was a Good Read.

Three Stars Of The Game: Decidedly Unofficial & Just For Fun

Wisconsin Honorable Mention: (tie) Chayla Edwards & Laila Edwards
First Order of Business: We welcome Chayla & Laila back to the Great State of Ohio. Next, we commend them for their valiant efforts to slow down the Buckeye attack. 3 Blocked Shots for Chayla; 2 Blocks for Laila. Always in the thick of things. Cleveland Heights is justly proud.

Ohio State Honorable Mention: (tie) Kiara Zanon; Jenna Buglioni; & Hadley Hartmetz
This trio of Buckeyes produced the first OSU Goal. Hadley decided to pinch in on the right point. Excellent choice. Hartmetz held the puck in, directing it to Buglioni below the goal line. Jenna squeezed the puck through the Badger 'D' and into the slot, finding Kiara. Zanon finished through the 5 hole for her 7th Goal of the Season. For Hartmetz, it was her first of two assists on the night.

#3 Star: (tie) Casey O'Brien, Wisconsin; Cassie Hall, Wisconsin & Marianne Picard, Wisconsin
The Top 3 Wisconsin Centers were absolute demons in the face-off circle. No need to consult the stats to appreciate their dominance. But, in fact, those numbers are worth a look. O'Brien: 14 of 23 for 60.9%. Hall: 7 of 9 for 77.8%. Picard: 10 of 15 for 66.7%. Impressive. I honestly can't remember the last time a visiting team came into the Ice Rink and posted face-off results of that caliber.

#2 Star: (tie) Hannah Bilka, Ohio State & Jenn Gardiner, Ohio State
The Offensive Play of the Game came on the 2nd Buckeye Goal. You've heard the expression "she skated circles around the other team?" Hannah literally did. Twice.

Buckeye Power Play. Badgers set-up in a patient PK alignment. Bilka skates two full laps around the defense, spanning the area from the high slot to the ice behind the Wisconsin net. Now that's wheeling. Next came the dealing. Centering pass from behind the goal cage. One-time slapper from Jenn. Buckeyes up 2-0.

Gardiner also pulled the trigger on 3rd Buckeye Goal. Similar shot location, also on the power play. This time the primary helper came from Jocelyn Amos. Riley Brengman started the play with a dump-in that wrapped around the end boards.

#1 Star: Raygan Kirk, Ohio State
It's not every day that you shut out the Wisconsin Badgers. Do it and you're likely to earn a #1 Star. Raygan did.

Someone stargazing from afar might conclude this game was an easy Beach Read. I mean, no goals on just 19 shots? No particular problem, right? Not exactly. This one could easily have become a Thriller. Badger Forwards had a couple of uncontested dashes to the Buckeye Net. But Kirk stood tall, calm & strong. All while enjoying the riotous support of the Buckeye alums in the South Stands. Those key saves kept the Buckeyes in control.

From there, Ohio State kept a pretty good lid on things for the rest of the game. Tellingly, the Badgers never got around to pulling their goalie. Instead they decided to live and fight another day.

Do expect the level of drama to increase in Chapter Two. And don't wait around for Paperback version. Go all in for the Hardcover.

                  • The Buckeyes completed their sweep of the Wisconsin Badgers earlier today by a final score of 2-1 in overtime. Jenn Gardiner opened the scoring for the Bucks in the first period and the teams went to the first intermission with Ohio State leading 1-0. Wisconsin's Cassie Hall scored for the Badgers in the second frame to knot it at 1-1 heading into the second intermission. Neither team could find the back of the net in the third period so the game went into overtime where Ohio State's Hannah Bilka scored to give the Buckeyes the 2-1 win. Ohio State outshot the Badgers 34-22 in this one with Buckeye Netminder Amanda Thiele stopping 21 of the 22 shots she faced to get the win. Ava McNaughton got the start for the Badgers and was valiant in defeat, stopping 32 of the 34 shots she faced in the loss. Ohio State will host 7th-ranked St. Lawrence next weekend in a big non-league series. Wisconsin will be off next weekend and will host Minnesota-Duluth the following weekend.

                    • Final Score From Saturday, November 18th
                      Ohio State 2
                      Wisconsin 1
                      (O.T.)

Settling In For A Long Siege
Friday's win? Simultaneously exhilarating and comfortable. While Wisconsin certainly provided quality competition, Ohio State controlled most of the game.

As Saturday's tilt began, it appeared to be more of the same. But slowly and surely, the Badgers raised their level of play. Tension replaced Comfort. The UW Defense became increasingly stingy. Goals became very hard to come by. Of course everyone in the Women's WCHA has seen this Badger Show before.

10 of 12 Points against Minnesota & Wisconsin? That's a wonderful start to the home portion of the schedule. And yet it's also a little bizarre to have exhausted our home games against the Gophers & Badgers prior to Thanksgiving. The fans in Minneapolis & Madison will get their turn. This is going to be a long haul. That said, the Buckeyes expect to enjoy the ride.

Three Stars Of The Game: Decidedly Unofficial & Just For Fun

Honorable Mention: (tie) Amanda Thiele, Ohio State & Ava McNaughton, Wisconsin
Both teams switched goalies on Saturday. Neither was perfect; but of course defense is a team effort. Pressure from talented defenders assisted both keepers. When the odd shot did get through, the 'D' were pretty efficient at clearing away any rebounds.

Nevertheless, both goalies were quite good in their own right. In one remarkable save, Amanda held off the puck and two Badger attackers holding her left leg firmly against the post. Ava had spectacular moments as well. In one case she turned aside a dangerous missile that was headed for the left side of the net, about a foot off the ice.

                      #3 Star: Cassie Hall, Wisconsin
This time Cassie gets a Star all to herself.

A pair of quick passes at the blue line sprung Hall on one of those uncontested dashes to the net. Credit Maddi Wheeler with the primary assist and Laila Edwards with the secondary helper. But the mini-breakaway was all Cassie. With some truly nifty stickhandling, Hall found a tiny bit of 5 hole space and tied the score.

Confidential To MJ: Next time you wind up in a shootout, save a slot for Cassie.

#2 Star: Jenn Gardiner, Ohio State
This Buckeye team has talented scorers up and down the line-up. But in the four home games to date, the Veteran Gardiner has been the player consistently bagging the biggest goals and assists. To say nothing of a healthy batch of Stars. Here's another; this time for playing a key role in both Buckeye Goals.

It's no surprise that Jenn excels at 3x3 Hockey. This time her cross-slot pass was the primary assist on the GWG...

#1 Star: Hannah Bilka, Ohio State
Dangerous all game, Hannah finally found the twine at 1:17 of the overtime period. On the receiving end of that Gardiner cross-slot pass, Bilka found a way to squeeze the puck into the goal cage. With impressively quick hands, Badger Defender Anna Wilgren immediately yanked the puck out of the net. But the deal was done.

Now some might complain that Hannah's goal "was just barely enough." I prefer to say that Hannah found a way to win.

                      • A request from a respectful adversary. I'm trying to determine how to access the Colgate UMD games this weekend and find myself directed to the Big 10 site where UMD is obviously not a member. Are their games part of the Minnesota option or something else? Seems harder than it needs to be...

I'm not sure. Here's a schedule of today's games shown on Big 10 Plus: https://www.bigtenplus.com/en-int/sc...ate=2023-11-24
It is confusing. There is the WCHA women's ice hockey annual pass (50 dollars/year), and there's the monthly WCHA conference pass (15 dollars/month), which gets you the 2 games this weekend.

BTN-Plus has the streaming rights to all WCHA games. (I guess to get Minnesota, Wisconsin, Ohio State, they went ahead and acquired the whole conference. This is the third year for that?) So, yes, Colgate being played at Duluth, BTN-Plus will be streaming the games.

For true Big Ten schools, you can get subscriptions by school, by sport, or an 'everything' package, monthly or annually. For the non-B1G WCHA schools in particular, I'm not sure what they do.

(I tried to send you a 'private message'; let me know if you didn't get it.)
