Is that laughing before or after you found out that there is a pre-draft free agent signing period where each team can sign 3 players?

Obviously it was before. As much as I want to rip on the gophers I don't want to look like a complete utter moron on this website just kind of a moron.

So what is your pecking order as far as former rodent players will be competing in this league? With Kessel taking a year off is Heise the best former rodent player available as a free agent or a draftee? I can't think of another ex-rodent player who scared me more than her.

          I'd probably say

          1. Heise
          2. Stecklein
          3. Kessel

Then beyond that you get Pannek, Zumwinkle, Brandt, and the two goalies (Raty, Leveille) in some order. Then, looking at the pro rosters from last year, Potomak, Brown, and maybe another goalie (Scobee, Bench) or recently-graduated defender (Marshall, Knowles) find spots. I don't watch the pro game as much as the college game, but I'm sure the number of alums in the PWHL will be in double-digits.

Not a former Gopher, but I was traumatized by Gabby Hughes more than anyone else over the last ~ five years. For a pro team in Minnesota, the appeal of former Gophers is: a) they are likely to want to live here; and b) the ticket-buying public knows them. The same should be true of Hughes.

Gophers are still almost certainly a top 5-6 team in the country, but they're far enough back of OSU and Wisco that the preseason rankings are probably deserved. This year will be about seeing how much Murphy can do as the team's offensive catalyst, and where exactly in the national goaltending rankings Vetter slots in. Blue line worries me. Offensive depth worries me (less than the blue line though).

Badger fans never give up on this idea. Roque got called for a lot of penalties, because she committed a lot of penalties.

Some of us just have a better appreciation for the finer details in the game. Wink. All we really know about rodent fans is that they're kind of good at spelling a certain word. I just can't figure out the pattern that's behind it.

If you record the tunnelers doing their spelling thing, then play the recording backwards, the backmasked message is "Goldy is dead".

Goldy was done in by a drunken cowboy carrying a ND Fighting Sue flag.

I won't fall for that one, not even when thinnered up.

This article has a section titled "New faces of the blue line" which talks, in depth, about who the Gophers have on defense for the coming season. Worth a read and it may even help your worries a little bit.

A Canadian junior team, even a pretty good Canadian junior team, is going to be in over their heads against any Division I opponent. And Durham West was. For one thing, during warmups and introductions they looked just way too small. But once the game started they had a few kids with pretty good size and lots of kids who could skate.

What they didn't have was anyone as good as Abby Murphy or Peyton Hemp.

Not a great game for the Gophers but it was an exhibition. They got a chance to skate against someone other than each other and it appeared that they escaped without anyone getting hurt.

It was fun to again be in a building with ice on the floor after a long hot summer.
