So what is your pecking order as far as former rodent players will be competing in this league? With Kessel taking a year off is Heise the best former rodent player available as a free agent or a draftee? I can't think of another ex-rodent player who scared me more than her.Wisconsin Hockey: 1, 3, 5, 7, 9, 11 WE WANT MORE!

I'd probably say
1. Heise
2. Stecklein
3. Kessel
Then beyond that you get Pannek, Zumwinkle, Brandt, and the two goalies (Raty, Leveille) in some order. Then, looking at the pro rosters from last year, Potomak, Brown, and maybe another goalie (Scobee, Bench) or recently-graduated defender (Marshall, Knowles) find spots. I don't watch the pro game as much as the college game, but I'm sure the number of alums in the PWHL will be in double-digits.

Not a former Gopher, but I was traumatized by Gabby Hughes more than anyone else over the last ~ five years. For a pro team in Minnesota, the appeal of former Gophers is: a) they are likely to want to live here; and b) the ticket-buying public knows them. The same should be true of Hughes."... Gophers are still almost certainly a top 5-6 team in the country, but they're far enough back of OSU and Wisco that the preseason rankings are probably deserved. This year will be about seeing how much Murphy can do as the team's offensive catalyst, and where exactly in the national goaltending rankings Vetter slots in. Blue line worries me. Offensive depth worries me (less than the blue line though).

A Canadian junior team, even a pretty good Canadian junior team, is going to be in over their heads against any Division I opponent. And Durham West was. For one thing, during warmups and introductions they looked just way too small. But once the game started they had a few kids with pretty good size and lots of kids who could skate.
What they didn't have was anyone as good as Abby Murphy or Peyton Hemp.
Not a great game for the Gophers but it was an exhibition. They got a chance to skate against someone other than each other and it appeared that they escaped without anyone getting hurt.
It was fun to again be in a building with ice on the floor after a long hot summer.Last edited by ManBehindTheCurtain; 09-23-2023, 10:08 PM.Pay no attention to the man behind the curtain.
