Don't forget RIT tied PSU last year. They are improving every season, and RMU is a team comprised from scratch so not a surprising outcome.

    • Penn State takes on Dartmouth for the first time in program history tonight at 6:00 (Eastern) and tomorrow at 2:00 (Eastern). The series is being streamed on ESPN+, and also in Canada on TSN+, but I don't have a link for the Canadian stream because I'm not subscribed to TSN+.

      • After one at Dartmouth it's 2-2, on goals from Alyssa Machado and Maggie MacEachern. Both teams took a penalty, and Penn State leads the shots on goal 11-7. Neither team looks very crisp, but Penn State is getting the better chances.

        • After two, Dartmouth is up 4-3 on Penn State. Shots on goal are 30-17 for Penn State, and Dartmouth has 6 penalties to 3 for Penn State. Dartmouth scored two early goals in the period and Jeff Kampersal pulled Josie Bothun and put Annie Spring in net.

          • Penn State takes game one by a score of 6-5. Shots on goal were 45-27 for Penn State. Goal scorers were Tessa Janecke, Alyssa Machado, Katelyn Roberts, Maggie MacEachern, Mya Vaslet, and Lyndie Lobdell.

            • A win is a win and the goal of 20 wins is alive. The amount of away games early in the schedule has been hard to believe. Lots of different scorers again. Vaslet remains hot.

              • Penn State and Dartmouth are back at it today at 2:00 (Eastern) on ESPN+ again, but I don't see a video link for the Canadian TSN+ for this one.

Hopefully Josie Bothun is on track today and got over whatever it was yesterday that made her give up four goals on twelve shots...ouch. Annie Spring ended up getting more time in net and looked good, but she didn't face a whole lot from Dartmouth. Penn State got a lot more time in Dartmouth's zone, so I wonder what the score might have been if Bothun had been pulled sooner.

This is definitely not last year's Penn State, at least so far, but they're leading the CHA. I really like that freshman forward Stella Retrum is on the top line with Tessa Janecke now. She came to Penn State with high hopes, and I think being paired with Janecke will push her and bring out her best. Janecke being a sophomore, Retrum will get three years of playing time with her if she's kept on the top line. That's a pretty good linemate to learn from.

Still no sign of freshman defender Karolina Hengelmuller, so now I'm wondering if she's going to take a medical redshirt. This roster is already short, so losing a player sure doesn't help.

                • I noticed Retrum and Brooks the last game and now you are saying Retrum and Janecke. That has to be a positive. The Roberts girl is consistently producing goals and has a real hard shot. Good eyes on the frosh being out, I haven't seen any announcements. The one thing is for sure, the social media girl from last year either graduated or is assigned to a different team as last year it was at a different level. Same thing on reporting, the stories seem to be way down. It really is amazing how dependent coverage is based on the person or people that are assigned to the team. Bothun has been solid, but even Selander from RPI would get pulled every so often.

                    • After one, it's Penn State up 4-1 on Dartmouth. Freshman forward Stella Retrum already has a hat trick, and Katelyn Roberts has the other goal. Shots on goal are only 8-6 for Penn State, but obviously they've been good ones. Retrum's third goal was probably the nicest tic-tac-toe goal I've seen in a long time.

                      • After two, it's Penn State up 7-2 at Dartmouth on two goals from Tessa Janecke and one from Julie Gough. The stats have the shots on goal 20-14 for Dartmouth, but that doesn't look right. Penn State has 5 penalties to Dartmouth's 3, including a 10-minute misconduct on Alyssa Machado for saying something to the ref. She wasn't kicked out, but she had to sit for 10 minutes.

                        • And Penn State takes the sweep at Dartmouth by a score of 8-2. Tessa Janecke and Stella Retrum each scored a hat trick, and Julie Gough and Katelyn Roberts scored the other two. Janecke finished at a +7, with 7 points today.

Thanks - I hope yours was great, too! As usual, I ate too much, but saying no to food isn't exactly my strong point.

                              • Tessa Janecke's seven point game tonight tied the CHA record for most points in a game, something only one other player has done in the CHA (16 years ago by Melissa Boal at Wayne State).
