Not unexpected. When someone suggested in the Harvard thread that the program might shut down next year, I dismissed it. Now I'm not so sure.

There was a post in the Harvard thread where the poster mentioned that he could see the program being shut down given the events that have unfolded. I dismissed it because I don't think Harvard would do something like that short of a pandemic. That's all. I was merely referencing a post. No insider info.

Lots of girls are unhappy with hockey at this level. The number of girls in the portal amazes at least me. The flip side is Ohio State may have put a number of coaches on the hot seat and the coaches may not have time for players to get better. If I had to sign next November, I'd be looking at programs closely to try and discern which coaches may be on the bubble.

A good number are women who started out to earn a four-year degree at a school, they've done that, but due to Covid, they have one more year. It doesn't necessarily mean that all were unhappy with their first choice, just that they never intended to get an advanced degree at that institution.

Of the 107 players listed, 61 have only the extra year remaining, for 57% of the portal.

Players with 2 and 3 years left number 26 and 25, so 24% and 23% respectively.

There are 2 goalies, Bachetti of St. Cloud St and Anderson of Franklin Pierce, who are the only ones showing 4 years left.

More stats that might give context: 49% of players in the pool are from schools that are changing their head coach or changed their coach in the past two seasons. It goes up to an even 50% if Harvard changes but Arnone remains their only player in the portal.

24% of all players in the portal are players with only 1 year of eligibility left whose program is changing or has changed their head coach since 2021-22.
