Progress! Just so they're as consistent as possible, game to game. The women's game overall is rapidly becoming more physical, which makes the referees' job more difficult.

    • Tommies sweep Lindenwood.
      UMD sweeps St. Cloud.
Looking at the game 1 stats, in the 2nd period UMD had 1 shot, St. Cloud had 3. 4 total shots in 1 period. That is insane. That has to be a D1 record for fewest shots in a period. Did the ice melt? Did the lights go out? For the weekend, St. Cloud outshot UMD 3 of the 6 periods.

The two teams were constantly hounding the puck carrier, with back and forth action but few scares for either goaltender. The first period was really seeing them feel out each set of matchups. UMD was able to figure out what they needed to do, while St. Cloud was unable to set up the right response for the pressure. The second game was a continuation with UMD in control.

Thanks for the insight, though it's still impossible to comprehend a shot total like that.

          • So the only 2 games that matter on the planet this weekend are UM at UW. I'm shocked UM's pk % is so bad, it's worse than UW's bad pp %. ARM says the rodents have 4 rollable lines, UW fans know UW has 4 rollable lines and MJ is actually doing it. The big question is will they see any action this weekend or will it be 3 lines. MN has played is undefeated against OSU and UMD, UW has only played UMD and split, so UM is the clear favorite.

            Other pointless games.....
            BSU at OSU
            STU at MSU
            Hawvawd at UMD

Interesting OSU has a titanic matchup with Colgate Tuesday and Wednesday. How are they going to handle playing 4 games in that window? Colgate is off this weekend. We will find out a bit if the EZAC is for real or not or will we because OSU will run out of gas?

I don't think OSU will run out of gas. Coach Muzerall has her players in peak physical condition and from Saturday evening to Tuesday evening is plenty of time for their bodies to fully recover from the Bemidj series.

We’ll see. 2 other significant upsets came in early in the week games this year. I agree they are in great shape but it’s still a change in routine.

Would Gate beating the Eye's be a significant upset? I suppose it depends on your women's college hockey worldview. Both teams will be out of schedule, so that is a wash to me.

Hmm well both teams are highly ranked so no outcome would be shocking, but defending champ OSU at home (who still has to finish off Bemidji, without some key players) should be favored to win.

I think the series is significant in the east west narrative. Also significant in that for some reason OSU and Colgate have only played each other 4 times in history! OSU is 2-1-1 in the series, all games between Fargo and Muzerall teams. Not sure why these teams didn’t play each other in there first 20ish years of existence.

What is ECAC’s biggest win against WCHA this year so far? Clarkson handling Bemidji? Maybe comparatively, Yale handling Penn State who has a big WCHA win?

Going back to the original comment about short rest - the series right before Thanksgiving on short rest, which team has the mental strength and gas to finish off this stretch of the season will be interesting to see.

PSU had played a game prior and UW went there cold with a practically all new line-up @ F, it was a perfect storm for PSU to get the upset. I don't put a lot of stock into that loss.

OSU/Colgate tie with OSU significantly outshooting them. Does OSU have an issue in goal or just horrible D zone play? A tie on the road in this game is practically a win for Colgate.

It doesn't look like any of the top WCHA teams are playing consistently at a championship level defensively, but it is November, not March. Nice work by Colgate to battle back from the early hole.

When your goaltender's save percentage is .750 (4 goals allowed on 16 shots) 3/4 of the way into the third period and winds up finishing the game at .809 (4 goals on 21 shots) you aren't going to be very succsessful most of the time. If you get a basic .900 save percentage out of your goalie you win this game 4-2. You can go the quality chances were closer route of spin but I'll take the odds of a team more than doubling up on shots against their opponent pretty much everytime.

Just to contrast, Toothpaste's goalie finished with a .923 save perctange.

At the outset, we could hang with the dude...

                          • Maybe we’ll see Raygan Kirk at some point. She was a highly regarded goalie whose career got a bit derailed by RMU cutting the program. OSU has options and while it’s not early in the season there is definitely time for the goaltending to return to form.

                              • Question for the rest of the WCHA- when you go to OSU- do you feel like you get home towned by the refs cuz it’s the same refs around there all the time? I saw the refs after the Colgate OSU game chatting amiably after the game near the OSU locker room. Wondering if there is any feeling of bias. Some very questionable calls in game 2 first period
