Are the number of scholarships regulated by the ncaa, league or a school? And then it gets complicated because you have in state tuition and out of state tuition. Of course my perspective is from a public institutional perspective. I can recall from men's hockey where a canadian player gets a full scholarship and a kid from wisconsin would only get a partial due to the tuition cost difference.
It's been used before with our men's team. It's simply a player added to a team without a scholarship offer but can be awarded scholarship money in future seasons.
it's unrealistic to think every student athlete is on scholarship.

Unrealistic? Equivalency sport, let's say a roster of 24 players, 18 full scholarships available. I don't think all 24 being on a 75% scholarship would be an "unrealistic" set-up for a team.

I've never heard or seen the term "preferred walk-on" used if reference to a hockey player. That doesn't mean it doesn't get used that way, but I don't recall ever seeing it.

6 transfers (so far)... Forwards Bilka, Zanon, Mobley, and King. Defensemen Barnes and Markowski. Heck of an infusion of talent into the lineup. I thought next year was going to be the Sinners and then everybody else but this lineup that the Yuckeyes will have for next year puts them right up there with the Sinners. I mean, why even bother with freshman recruits?
At the outset, we could hang with the dude...

It worked last year, at least in the last game. I think that loss pushed Calamity over to edge (she got the better match-up LOL) and now she's just throwing caution to the wind.

At least the way MJ runs the program he's never used it before. Maybe the 3rd goalie or 4th goalie is (if they have a 4th) may be a preferred walk on, but MJ runs a tight ship on player numbers so I. Kronish was the 3rd/4th and in the interviews she has done it seemed like going somewhere else for more PT or $$$ was never a factor.

It's interesting that the Ohio State women's volleyball coach was faced with a similar situation and choice. She had five big-contribution players (out of maybe nine or so total who play in a usual match), all with a COVID year of eligibility left to use, but also with a well thought-of recruit class coming in. With VB being a 'head count' sport - no partial scholarships possible - something had to give. She decided to keep her recruiting class, and had to let the COVID seniors go. It was all done on 'good terms', the COVID seniors understood the problem. All five have transferred to other major VB programs, including two who went to other Big Ten schools, Minnesota and Penn State. Last year's team was really good, in the running for the conference championship until the final weekend. This season she and her team are going to take their lumps, but she decided the future was more important overall.

In today's system she doesn't need to fill her vacancies all with freshmen. She uses the means available with the portal and she's VERY good at it.
She signed the 4 freshmen she wanted - all top tier players!

It really is all duckies and bunnies with the Yuckeye faithful. Seriously, you don't see the issue where you're saying she signed the 4 freshmen she wanted, all top tier players (4 forwards I believe), on one hand and then brings in, not just 1 or 2, but 4 forward transfers and every on of them top tier players in their own right? Quite the logjam at the top of the lineup and that doesn't even touch the subject of the returning forwards in the lineup.

Yes, it does seem forward heavy and it's been discussed off forum among us that we could use some more D players but who knows, more announcements to come?

I never understand the point of such posts.

No, you didn't "tell us so". You posted "I know something you don't know". Then you waited until someone else "told us so".

There's a guy on the UW threads that does this from time to time. I don't understand it when he does it either.

I don't get the point of it.

It was either troll bait or hinting at inside information. I'm not telling which but Mobley is now signed! (Big Grin)

Yeah, that's what I'm saying. "Trolling" and "hinting" isn't "telling". So what's the point?
