I did see a couple of Knucklebucks (student cheering section) rooting for Quinnipiac, so I guess some people remembered the experience in Hockey Valley last season. Mrs 86 and I and Hockeybuckeye and his wife sat together and we just enjoyed the game. We were not cheering for or against either team.
We sure got our money's worth for getting to watch a great hockey game!

Indeed. Line-up movement within the Top Six forwards is pretty normal. But treating everyone in the Top Nine as interchangeable is a little bolder. If that is what happened. I suppose it should be noted that the Q "Third Line" started the game.

It will be very interesting to see what the Quinnipiac lines look like on Saturday.

Thanks for giving us the bonus coverage!
You're very welcome. I was going to do a 3 Stars Post regardless of how the game was played. But it turned to be a major privilege to honor both teams on jobs very well done.

      • After a triple overtime game and even with a days rest any thoughts on how much will be left of Quinnipiac's legs by the 3rd period of our game?

I believe the day's rest will make a difference. The Buckeyes better be prepared to get the Bobcats' best shot.

Back when the Men's Tournament had 12 teams, you saw the same show over and over again in the Quarterfinals. The team with the bye would start out a little rusty, but get stronger & stronger as the game went on. Conversely, the first round winner would get more and more fatigued as the Quarterfinal went on.

But of course those games were played on back to back days. Does the off-day fully level the playing surface? Well, from a partisan point of view, there's hope that the extreme length of the Q/PSU game might mean a return of the "historical" pattern. But had Q won in regulation, my feeling is that playing on Thursday would be a non-issue.

I will say this. Our Buckeyes are good at closing out games. I would not want to be playing catch-up against OSU, with a 3 OT game prominently in the rear view mirror.

          • I have another question that perhaps Mr.PGB would have some insight on?
Will we be blessed with WCHA on ice officials Saturday or will the NCAA send neutral conference refs?

I believe it has to be neutral conference for any NCAA game. At least it always is on the men's side.

At last year's Regional it was the same crew for both games.

That rule was discarded a few years ago, I think for the men as well.

                  • I would like to read some Quinnipiac fans thoughts on Saturdays game but it seems they don't have a thread on forum this season. Perhaps some will post on our thread?

I am fine with Ludwig and Kaehler. Our kids know how they will call the game. Now that they have played a game with those two officiating, Quinnipiac's kids should know, too. I think Quinnipiac will be a tough out tomorrow, but I like the chances of our better-rested Buckeyes on home ice.

Definitely got our money's worth on that game!

I am with you regarding I would like to hear from some Quinnipiac fans.

It's a shame they do not have a thread out here.

In 2012, Cornell defeated BU, 8-7, in a wild game that was just 10 seconds shy of lasting a full six periods. Playing Minnesota six days later, the Big Red started slowly, being outshot 21-5 in the first period, and going down a couple of goals. Maybe Cornell was just a slow-starting team that year (they did get into an early 0-3 hole with BU), but they sure didn't have any jump early.

The following year, Minnesota was the team playing 3 OT in the quarter, advancing over UND. Six days later against BC, a high-scoring Gophers team was held scoreless for almost 42 minutes, then scored three times over the next 20 minutes. While conventional wisdom would say that teams would lack stamina after those marathon games, the more immediate problem is just getting their legs going in the first place.

You mentioned in both those games there was a six day gap. Quinnipiac will have only one full day of rest. Would you think that would be more of a factor to than the six days of rest?

It's only fair if Muzzy pushes the game off to sunday night period.
