(My niece's husband was a walk-on defensive lineman in their common freshman year; the description has been expanded to include McIntosh's name now, but he describes his job on the scout team as "get off a Chris McIntosh block and go tackle Ron Dayne." After a year, he decided to go play rugby instead. :-)

I was joking with Hockeybuckeye that we should go Thursday and root against Penn State like they did in the Frozen Four last season (their fans rooted against us in both games). Joking aside, I am just going to go watch some good hockey and see who we end up playing Saturday. I don't have a preference regarding who we play. Plus, our team will probably be there watching. I actually drug Mrs. 86 down to the ice rink last night to see if we could welcome the girls home and from what I was told, we missed them by 20 minutes. Anyway, should be fun. I guess some people were not able to get tickets to Saturday's game (sold out already). They were told to check with the fans of the team that loses Thursday's game and try to get tickets from them.

Where did you hear that? I would be surprised at that considering Nadine is Canadian and has coached for Hockey Canada in the recent past. Coach Muzerall coaching Team USA? Yeah, I would totally like that! Funny statement, some guys were interviewing her recently and one of them asked her if she could get Marie Philip-Poulin to retire. (laugh emoji)
Buckeye Talk Podcast. Context of the question was when are you going to coach Canada at the Olympics, and she was like well they have a pretty good coach already. (And he’s under contract through the next Olympics). She added her life is here so why not team USA?
l don’t think Team USA will go for it, hahahah.
I noticed that OSU announced more tickets are now available. Gonna cram the people in. Can’t wait to hear what you guys have to say about that atmosphere.

EDIT: It's Wednesday Afternoon, & Ticketmaster is still showing tickets available. Again, I recommend purchasing without delay.
Please don't be deceived by the premature "Sold Out" notice Ticketmaster put up on Monday. And remember that all tickets are General Admission. Tickets you buy today are just as good as the tickets that were sold back on Monday.
ADDITIONAL EDIT: It's Wednesday Evening, and now Ticketmaster is once again displaying a "Sold Out" notice for the Saturday game. Hope everyone on the thread got the tickets they needed.
Can’t wait to hear what you guys have to say about that atmosphere.
Now I'm guessing that our event is simply too small to attract professional scalpers. (read: not enough money to be made) But it would be a terrible lose-lose situation if tickets went unclaimed in the secondary market.Last edited by pgb-ohio; 03-08-2023, 07:06 PM.

Final Score From Thursday, March 9th
Quinnipiac 3
Penn State 2
(3 Overtimes)
We'll Leave The Light On For You
We came to the Ice Rink expecting to see three fine periods of NCAA Tournament Hockey. The teams exceeded those expectations. A two game, total goals series broke out. With the games played consecutively. In the end, we received 109 minutes and 37 seconds of high quality heroism.
Now this wasn't the longest Women's Playoff game ever. Research on another thread indicates that we came in at #18 on the all-time list. Top 20? We'll take it. Quite honestly I don't think anyone involved was begging for more.
This was a test of perseverance, courage, and endurance. Both teams passed with flying colors. Quinnipiac made the last play.
Now just who was that South End Goal Judge, calling the GWG? Apparently Tom Bodett, of Motel 6 & NPR fame. It's customary for the goal light to shine for a short while, then be switched off. But possibly in deference to the epic struggle he had just witnessed, the Goal Judge left his post with the light still glowing. In other words, he left the light on for them. Now I don't know if any of the out-of-town fans stayed at a Motel 6. But if so, I imagine the light was left on for them as well.
Three Stars Of The Game: Decidedly Unofficial & Just For Fun: BONUS COVERAGE
2nd Honorable Mention: 2 Penn State Defenders: Kendall Butze and Izzy Heminger
Truth be told, all of the Nittany Lion Defenders were outstanding. But the 1st 'D' Pair stood out, if only a little. It just seemed that Kendall & Izzy always anticipated the play, and were constantly winning battles in the slot and along the boards. In terms of Endurance, they never let up.
Yes, I'll acknowledge a little bias here in favor of Dublin native Heminger. Still, so cool to see her play so well. It was sad, happy and a little weird to see her Nittany Lion career end during a Columbus homecoming. But mostly I felt proud of her. I hope both Izzy and her family also take great pride in her performance and her whole career.
1st Honorable Honorable Mention: 3 Quinnipiac Defenders: Maddy Samoskevich; Kendall Cooper; and Kate Reilly
Defense rarely gets enough credit. That's one reason why I made a special effort to use both the Honorable Mentions to honor Defenders. As with PSU, the whole Q 'D' Corps was great. I felt like Maddy was the quarterback of the group. In the Courage Department, Kendall had 4 blocks and Kate had 3 blocks.
Yes, it's no coincidence that I chose 3 players from Quinnipiac and 2 from Penn State.
#3 Star: (tie)Logan Angers, Quinnipiac; and Josie Bothun, Penn State
Perseverance? Both goalies stood out. Logan had 50 saves; Josie had 55. Granted, both had lots of defensive support. But many difficult saves were required for each team to stay alive. Then, there were a few isolated occasions when the defenses broke down and breakaways resulted. Both goalies were equal to that challenge as well.
In the end, Logan had the happier experience.
#2 Star: 2 Penn State Forwards: Kiara Zanon; and Olivia Wallin
Kiara and Olivia generated the Nittany Lion scoring. Taking a cross-slot feed from her Co-Star, Kiara executed a patient and brilliant backhand tap-in.
Olivia converted on the Power Play. Re-directing a Courtney Correia shot, Wallin's tip had impressive elevation and pace. The puck slammed into the goalie's shoulder, and darted into the upper right hand corner of the net.
#1 Star: 3 Quinnipiac Forwards: Olivia Mobley; Shay Maloney and Madison Chantler
The Quinnipiac 3rd Line certainly came to play. Olivia had assists on both the Game-Tying and Game-Winning Goal. Shay opened the scoring with sheer determination; first stealing possession, then positively willing the puck into the net.
104 Hockey minutes later, the whole line attacked the Penn State End with a Big Time Rush. Thank goodness the GWG was a clean play. Madison's solid shot ended the marathon.
By random chance, I the good fortune to briefly congratulate Chantler's Mom on her Daughter's accomplishment. Mom was taking a picture of the scoreboard -- and the light that had been left on for Madison.
Up Next: On To The NCAA Quarterfinals. Ohio State Hosts Quinnipiac Saturday At 5:01 PM. Note The Unusual Start Time. Obviously This Is A Rematch Of The 2022 Quarterfinal. More Great Hockey Expected!
