No doubt about it. She will have them ready for Mankato next weekend.

Agreed. I don't have a lot of faith in many things in the world anymore but coach Muzerall getting the job done is one that I do still have faith in.

So you don't get the band for every game either?

Ohio State has a LOT of sports and there's not enough volunteer band members to go around. I have no idea who decides what games they play at.

            • Solid win for the Buckeyes tonight. The ladies looked extremely cohesive which only leads to more scoring opportunities. A lot of dingers by both team and of course the usual WCHA officiating of letting them play. The Mavericks didn't play badly, they were just outmatched but kudos to them to give it their all right to the end even though the game was out of reach.
One last observation, it looked to me OSU's last goal seemed like it was going to go over the net but was deflected down and into the net by the goaltenders raised arm. My wife was watching at home and said the same thing. Anyone concur?

              • Ohio State took care of business earlier tonight in game one of this series vs Minnesota State by a final score of 6-2. As Hockeybuckeye alluded to, Minnesota State played hard and gave the Buckeyes all they could handle, but eventually Ohio State took over and put it out of reach behind a 48-17 advantage in shots on goal. Ohio State's Paetyn Levis scored the only goal of the first period to put the Buckeyes on top 1-0 at the first intermission. Minnesota State's Madison Mashuga lit the lamp early in the second period to tie it at 1-1. Ohio State struck back with goals from Sophie Jaques and Jenn Gardiner to take a 3-1 lead into the final intermission. Minnesota State didn't go away as the Mavericks got a goal early in the third period from Kelsey King to cut the Ohio State lead to 3-2. The Bucks answered with the next three goals to win going away. The Buckeye goals were scored by Jenn Gardiner, Paetyn Levis, and Brooke Bink. Brooke Bink's goal was her first of the season, which was great to see! Also great to see was netminder Quinn Kuntz getting the start and the win in this one. Kuntz stopped 15 of the 17 shots she faced in the win. Maverick backstop Lauren Barbro had a great game in net, stopping 42 of the 48 shots she faced. The two teams are back at it tomorrow with game time at 3:00 pm EST. There will be a Skate With The Team after tomorrow's game, so bring your skates, or you can rent them from the OSU Ice Rink Pro Shop.

                • Just wanted to stop by after watching the replay on BTN+. Some MSU fans near us wanted a potential goal to be reviewed, but the replay showed that the puck clearly just hit the bar and did not cross the line. I am guessing the referees saw the same thing and did not feel a review was warranted.

                  • I’m happy that Quinn Kuntz got the start and win at home. I believe she could be a starting goalie at just about any women’s college program but she has elected to stay at Ohio State. As an alumni and fan I am proud of her being part of the Ohio State community. Go Quinn! Go Bucks!

                    • Final Score From Friday, January 27th
                      Ohio State 6
                      Minnesota State 2
Tea It Up And Play Briskly

Played at a Brisk pace, this game was completed in just under two hours. There were only three total penalties; two on the Mavericks & one on the Buckeyes. The teams were probably smart to stay out the box; two of the three power plays resulted in goals.

Minnesota State certainly had its moments Friday evening. But overall the Buckeyes dictated play and posted a fairly routine victory. As this remarkable regular season enters the home stretch, we would do well to remember how often this Ohio State team is just Taking Care Of Business. (Admittedly Working Overtime is occasionally involved.) Of course we'll remember the epic wins, when the team truly goes into Overdrive. But both components are necessary to build a strong resume.

Three Stars Of The Game: Decidedly Unofficial & Just For Fun

Minnesota State Honorable Mention: The Maverick Power Play
Mankato was perfect on the power play, converting on its only opportunity. Claire Butorac started the play from down low, sending the puck to Taylor Otremba. Taylor's shot was blocked, but the puck helpfully deflected to Madison Mashuga. No puck luck needed on Madison's fine shot.

Ohio State Honorable Mention: Brooke Bink
Does the phrase "Well Alrighty Then!" ever roll off your lips? That was my reaction to Brooke's high, sizzling blast.

It was a little hard to wrap your brain around exactly how the puck entered the net, partly due to the pace of the shot. But HockeyBuckeye's theory that the puck glanced in off the keeper's arm is likely correct. Next, thumbs up to osumalum86 for noting that it was Bink's first goal of the season. Great to see all of Brooke's hard work finally get rewarded. And let's not forget that Sloane Matthews fed Bink to create the opportunity & earn the assist. Ultimately this tally completed the scoring, and put a nice exclamation mark on the Friday win.

#3 Star: Paetyn Levis, Ohio State
A regular on this list, Paetyn added two more goals to her healthy season total of 17. That number leads all OSU Forwards. Her first opened the scoring; it's always nice to break the ice. Her second came on an unassisted solo dash that would have made Bobby Orr proud. On a personal note, I'll admit feeling a little old when making a perfectly appropriate Bobby Orr reference, and having current students respond with puzzled looks. C'est la vie.

#2 Star: Madison Bizal, Ohio State
Madison had the primary assist on three consecutive goals. The second (Buckeyes regain the lead); the third (GWG) and the fourth. (Important Insurance Goal). Couple that with Bizal's disciplined defense, and you've got your #2 Star.

Bottom Line? When this contest was being decided, Madison was in the Heart Of It All.

#1 Star: Jenn Gardiner, Ohio State
There's nothing de-caffeinated about Jenn Gardner's shot. Think of a stout English Breakfast Tea. Jenn had both the GWG & the Insurance Goal. In both cases Bizal provided the sterling silver service, as noted above.

On the GWG, Jenn & Madison were working the umbrella along with Sophie Jaques. Gardiner ripped a shot for the finish. On the Insurance Goal, it was Makenna Webster who joined the tea party and earned the secondary assist.

How to celebrate? Perhaps with a serving of Earl's Scarlet & Grey Tea? Or whatever your favorite beverage is.

It certainly sounded like a pipe shot. And I didn't notice any Maverick players or coaches questioning the no-goal call.

Of course "getting it right" is Job 1. But if there's no legitimate doubt, there's something to be said for keeping the game moving.

No, I am not actually old enough to remember that late 1960s Manfred Mann hit as a small child, but I have heard it and just felt like tossing those lyrics out there in honor of Quinn!

It is always great to see her getting a start in net and a win.

Totally agree with Bkruczynski that I am really proud of her for sticking it out through adversity and staying at tOSU when she would be a solid #1 goaltender at a lot of other schools! It's awesome to have three amazing goaltenders here that we can put in any game, any situation. We ended up winning last night's game handily, but for those who watched the game, Quinn made some big saves at times where a goal by the Mavericks could have made it close.

                            • The Buckeyes completed the sweep earlier today, ok, yesterday, I am up late (LOL). The final score was 4-2, but give the Mavericks credit as they made Ohio State and the home fans sweat this one out! The Buckeyes came out and played a great first period, scoring three goals and taking a 3-0 lead into the first intermission. The Buckeye goals were scored by Makenna Webster, Paetyn Levis, and Sofie Lundin. Those three goals would end up being all Ohio State needed in this one, but Minnesota State came storming back with the only two goals of the second frame to make it a 3-2 game at the second intermission. The Maverick goals were scored by Charlotte Akervik and Claire Butorac. The Buckeyes got an insurance goal from Riley Brengman in the third period and the game ended with the Buckeyes winning 4-2. The Buckeyes outshot Minnesota State 49-24. Amanda Thiele got the start in net for Ohio State and stopped 22 of the 24 shots she faced in the win. Alexa Berg started for the Mavericks and stopped 45 of the 49 shots she faced. Ohio State will be on the road next weekend for a big showdown with the Minnesota Gophers. The Mavericks will return home to host Minnesota-Duluth.

Excellent catch; that's exactly the song I was referencing.

I'm a little older, and do remember Mighty Quinn from when it was released. When I was a little kid, I found out about the Snoopy vs. The Red Baron song by the Royal Guardsmen. That got me going with Rock & Roll and I never looked back. Anyhow, the Mighty Quinn song is of the same late 60's vintage.

My other musical reference from Saturday morning was, of course, Taking Care Of Business by Bachman Turner Overdrive. That's a little more recent, coming from the mid-1970's.
