Yeah, but with Hamilton, they just recently lost their coach. It takes time no matter how urgent it suddenly becomes.

The other schools knew they needed a new coach for months.

    • I think all of the above can turn to their current assistant coach as at least the interim if not the next permanent HC (assuming they want to stick around).

Hamilton has a very experienced assistant in Kayte Holtz and I would he surprised if she is not the permanent HC, much less the interim. She's going into her 8th or 9th season with the Continentals.

St. Mary's has Kasi Petersen. She's going into her 4th season with SMU and was an assistant at Franklin Pierce for two seasons before that.

Marian's Katie Lindsley is the second least experienced of the top assistants but I think she makes a lot of sense as not only a former Marian player but she is a native of Fon du lac where the school is. I think the fact that she didn't even leave for the 4 years of college shows strong roots in the area.

Olivia Cook is the least experienced at the collegiate level but she has quite a bit of experience at the high school level and she made Cornell's roster back in the early 2010s so she has experience as a high level player. Her bio says she is pursuing a bachelor's at Potsdam so she may have other plans beyond coaching at Potsdam once that's done...

      • Former King's Head Coach Jordan Ott has been announced as an assistant coach at UCHC rival Chatham.

She is at least the third 22-23 DIII head coach to be a DIII assistant coach for 23-24, joining Emily McNamara and Melissa Lomanto

That move is an odd one. She left King's on her own, right? I had heard she wanted the Potsdam job a few years back but was turned down, so I would have thought there was another opportunity there this year. Instead, she took a step down? Unless it comes with an opportunity to also be involved with the softball team, which I know she also loves.

          • Everything I've heard is that King's isn't a very enticing place to go. One parent I spoke to about their recruiting experience said they and their daughter loved Ott but the campus just wasn't up to par.

Maybe working there is just as bad and Ott decided to go...

As happens all too often in our sport, the players and parents complain hard enough to administration and blame the coach for their losing ways and administration caves in once again. But don't worry, they hired a guy that never played NCAA hockey and who has never coached women before so that's the answer to their problems. Lmao. I have a feeling the word is out in the real women's coaching community to avoid King's at all costs because it's a sure career killer. I think the AD there must be struggling with not knowing anything about women's hockey and how to fix an unfixable problem there. Certain programs will simply never succeed. That's just the way it is.

By all accounts, Ott was not fired. She left on her own accord.

Given Chad's reputation and this apparent fiasco at MSOE I think St. Mary's would be making a mistake. Kasi Peterson is an experienced assistant and has been on campus for the past two seasons. I think she would be a great interim and they can open up to more options for a permanent HC in the spring after the 2024 championship weekend.

Ask Elmira how hastily bringing in someone who is accomplished but comes into it looking for his next spot has worked out...

                        • Apparently Kasi Peterson is not staying on board at St. Mary's either, although I agree with you, Scott, that she would have been a good choice for the interim. Trying to fill a head and assistant coach in mid September seems like a tall task at this point. I'm curious what Olivia Spellmire -who was the assistant at St. Olaf last year - is doing. The Oles are coming off their best record in many years and she had a great playing career at Lake Forest and had coaching stops at Brown and Maine. She might be a good candidate for the Cardinals job. Another job that is open is the assistant at Augsburg. Their long-time assistant, Ashley Holmes, just recently left to take the Hockey Operations job at the Univ of Minnesota.

                            • Potsdam has named Tyren Boots as their new assistant. Boots is a 2022 grad of Marian who played for their AHCA hockey team and their varsity lacrosse team.

I feel so sorry for the girls in this program. Someone needs to warn them about his history of verbally abusive behavior towards his players. It happened at RIT and at Adrian. Odds are it will happen again at St. Mary's. Don't let him, girls! To be forewarned, as they say.
