The way they lost that game to LIU on Friday was brutal.

Thank you! Don't have those skills. Mine lie somewhere between the Allegheny Badgers and the Altoona Trackers.

Sorry for the paywall. It's always a crapshoot. The gist of the article, which describes the lengths parents and coaches will go to pursue youth hockey gold, is this: "Development should be key, but the problem is once the rankings get involved, development goes out the window." (Squirt team coach)

Now back to your regularly scheduled thread.

There was a disturbing lack of PPE due to the business policy of shipping manufacturing overseas to exploit cheap labor. So people starting making masks out of cloth for ordinary people to use. I remember numerous sewing circles getting started, so that there was some protection from aerosol spread of Covid while the N95 and similar masks were reserved for the people dealing with patients on a daily basis. There was never any claim that cloth masks were as good as hospital issue masks, but they were better than nothing. Now that supply chain issues are taken care of, everyone can, and should, obtain a quality mask to protect themselves and others.
Correct, but the people have been lulled to sleep on this issue. Mask usage is up in the area that I live, like to 50% usage, (which I would call an anti/vax anti/mask area) as Covid is going nuts here right now, but 99% of masks being worn are the cloth ones. I see all these old people wearing them and I feel really bad for them. I hope they are shot up. When Joe did his little Covid presentation a few weeks ago, he should have made it perfectly clear that N95's were the only masks you should be wearing right now. He did not. He talked about getting testing kits to everyone. How about getting some N95's to everyone also? They are available all over Amazon right now. I do not know about in store availability. I have been sitting on 12 of the N95's since the pandemic started, now with Omricon being so much more transmittable than the first 2, it's is the time to crack them out in high risk situations like going to 2 hockey games this weekend. And we ordered more last night. We will have them Friday.

Read about a small study in South Africa that said the omricon anti-bodies ward off the delta. If it holds true, great news.

Interestingly, Tardif does keep the door open for postponement, moving it to USA, but a lot of things would have to go right, not least of which is getting the raging pandemic under control. According to Gord Miller of TSN the reason the U18 men’s tourney happened in Texas in 2021 was because USA Hockey underwrote the cost of that tourney. Presumably boys U18, even at the top level, is in the group of IIHF tourneys that don’t make a profit.

It would be nice if they found a way to make the tourney happen for the girls. It’s sad for the players, sends a terrible message about who is valued in hockey, and considering their are fewer girls tourneys to begin with there’s always a disparate impact when a girls tourney is cancelled.

Omricon is most contagious 2 days before a positive test and 3 days after.

I am not shocked someone got it from a dental office. The cloth masks are not effective, this is very contagious and I bet bet a typical dental office sees 50-100 patients a day. This stuff stays in the air for hours and hours. Odds are you are going to get this, get shot up, feel bad for a few days and then life goes on.
Rather keep my immunocompromised and high risk friends alive, thanks.

sadly some Canadians have coronavirus so final rivalry series games won’t be played. Not sure who all is in isolation but it looks like Daoust is, and she of course has a young child. Definitely feel for her and hope she is home soon.

Canada still has 3 cuts to make, and leaves for Beijing in less than a month. USA is planning on naming their men’s team mid month....maybe same for Canada women, depending on how Covid goes? Hailey Salvian of the Athletic is projecting final cuts to be Maltais, O’Neill and Bell. Kind of a shame but of course that’s how it goes.

as for U18 tourney, IIHF president Tardif issued a statement about the U18s basically scolding fans for expecting girls / women tournaments not to be cancelled at the top level for multiple years.
