  • Re: Coronavirus

For scholarship players, the school has fulfilled its commitment to the student athlete to pay for the student to attend school this year. So I could see schools saying- ok you have another year of eligibility but we already gave you the money so if you want to use your eligibility next year it’s on your dime. That will severely limit the number of students who return. And it’s not unfair from that perspective except that it totally sucks for them as an athlete.

Is it really just a week ago we're getting ready to watch conference semi-finals and running possibilities of who plays who in the NCAAs??

For spring sports, the entire roster lost the year. It's not an analogy; it is simply what is.

I'm not advocating that anything specific should be done. But at the point we're at right now, there isn't anything that can be done that will be fair to everyone. It simply isn't possible, because there is one fewer season of competition and no reduction in student athletes.

Remember that Harvard, like all the Ivies does not issue athletic scholarships, so scholarship constraints are very different there.

The advisements are to keep gathering sizes under 250. All these games would have under 250 and they could have made them even smaller by not allowing any family to be there. Interstate travel is still allowed. Not playing these games makes no sense.

Once an NBA player tested positive, it was game over. Literally. For everybody.

Which means you really can't continue with classes, because you have thousands of students mingling in the same lecture rooms, hallways, unions, etc. Once the classes are canceled, what sort of message would it send to have practices and games continuing? I don't like it, but I fully support it.

I would just like to point out that BC was the first team to put safety first and opt out of the tournament.

FWIW, apparently the NCAA is discussing temporarily increasing scholarship limits in affected sports.

Their leadership in doing this is admirable. They will be looked upon, as the leader they are, to continue to put saftey first and opt out early on an annual basis going forward.

And don't forget, each year making opting out easier by contributing one or two top tier players to the NC$$ transfer portal.

There is another nasty virus spreading sucking the logic out of people's brains. Not directed at you but the powers that be at the time.

It's really a dead discussion now because even if they had played last weekend and got to a final 4 teams, there's no way as of today the FF was going to happen.
