They weren't as crisp in the second, so we'll see if they settle down and just play their game.
I have to disagree here. 97 shots and 47 shots on goal indicates players are taking shots under circumstances they probably should be looking for another option. Take a look at the "D" shot attempts versus shots that were on goal, it is telling most games they've played. It would appear some players may be point chasing, and that is never a good thing.

      • I agree with Zed. I had to look up the advanced metrics for the year and

        Gangarosa. 55/108 .51 shots on goal/total shots= %on net.
        Lobdell. 46/106 .43
        Heminger 40/99 .40
        Adolfson 32/76 .42
        Uihlien 19/46 .41

        On the pp

        Adolfson 23/56 .41
        uiehlien 12/35 .34
        Heminger 9/23 .39
        Lobdell 14/29 .48
        Gangarosa 10/16 .62

I see very similar numbers with one outlier. I don't see anything there that jumps out at me.

Gawerdosky and Kampresal come from Princeton and Gawerdosky's PSU team is known for usually leading the nation in shot attempts. It's worked for the men.

Playing a team in a tight five dice is frustrating. It beat Mercyhurst earlier this year.

Kampresal says he wants to try different angle shots tonight.

Mikayla Lanto looks like she is back as she has some stats now.

I looked at the highlight of Bothun's save and d need to be disciplined in staying in the zone until puck is cleared.
Didn't get to see the game.

PSU is now a more consistent scoring team, yet not prolific. However, team D has been very good lately.

        • I think a lot of their shot attempts (not shots on goal) are miscounted, because to me it looks like a very frequent set play to bounce the puck off the back boards and close in on it for some scrappy stuff at the net. That's less a shot attempt and more of a "board aided" pass.

          • If RIT is going with same goalie, there is no way 97 shots did not tire her out. Zed you could be right on the bank pass. I'm not a fan of the low cycle, yet they do that often too. Most of the success has been when the players are getting up and down the ice. All the lines and pairings seem to be working.

              • After one period, it's Penn State up on RIT 2-0, on goals from Julie Gough and Rachel Weiss. RIT took the only two penalties. Penn State leads the shots on goal 16-5. They look a lot better today than yesterday, however they made that happen for a game two.

                • After two, it's Penn State up 6-0, on goals from Izzy Heminger, Kiara Zanon, Julie Gough, and a shorthanded goal from Natalie Heising. Penn State leads the shots on goal by 35-13. RIT took a penalty and Penn State took three.

                  • Just was looking at RIT statisticly and they have scored 5 goals in 11 games so far this year (12 game isn't looking any better). No more than 1 goal in any game they have played.

Amazingly, with that scoring prowess, they have a 1-0 win over Mercybratwurst.

                    • Penn State takes this one 7-1 on another goal from Natalie Heising. Shots on goal were 44-20 for Penn State. Annie Spring got her first playing time in net for Penn State and gave up the only goal. RIT played all three of their goalies. Not much to say about this one - obviously it was all Penn State, but RIT never stopped playing. Nine days off now for the team before heading to Rochester to do it again.

                      • On a sidenote, the announcers said for tonight's "senior night" too-doo, they honored Jenna Brenneman and junior Jessica Adolfsson, but not Natalie Heising. Brenneman is no surprise to be done at Penn State, but it must mean Adolfsson is centralizing next year for Team Sweden in the Olympics and then not coming back for a senior year. It also must mean Heising has chosen to use the Covid-related deal where everyone gets another year next season if they want it. That makes sense for Heising, since Penn State is hosting the national tournament next year. Kind of a nice way to go out, especially after she's seen what this team is all about now, and knowing that now it has a very real chance of a tournament spot next season.

                        • Glad Spring got in a period. Would have liked Brenneman to get one on Sr night too. The first line was cooking. The pp is pitiful although it did get one.

                              • Natalie Heising is three points away from her 100th career point. She's close to setting a program best if she can squeak past Amy Petersen (101) and Laura Bowman (104). If she does decide to play a fifth year next season, she'll obviously set a new record that isn't likely to be beaten anytime soon, though Petersen and Bowman each played four seasons, of course. What's in the water up in Minnesota anyway??
