    • Well the US allows 3 oddman rushes in the 2nd and Canada scores on the 3rd one. Knight with the shorty gives the US life. Will Canada get tight?

        • Congratulations to Canada, clearly the best team in the tournament and arguably the best of all time.

          • Wasn't it the poster Chaffron, or something like that, who was so down on Canadian women's hockey? They seem to have overcome whatever was wrong with them.

And for Team USA, maybe it's time to let some of the older players move on to other things and go younger. And not just a token player or two that doesn't see the ice much.

Or maybe hope that this Olympics is the last they will see of Poulin.

              • I thought the article on ESPN.com about "no silver lining, just a silver medal" was a bit mean spirited. Yes, there does appear that a small gap has developed between the US and Canada, but I'm not sure what the point of the article was other than to take a kick at the US Women's team less than 24 hours after losing gold medal game 3-2. They lost the prelim game 4-2 so I'm not sure I see the chasm that the article was insinuating.

Would you like to mention a few names?

Knight is the oldest on the roster, and in four years she'll be 36 years old, so more likely than not won't be playing. But she was hardly the problem last night.

The next three oldest are Bozek, Decker and Kessel. Kessel had the other goal besides Knight's, and their AP article this morning was trying to sell the idea that if Decker had not been injured, the whole tournament might have ended differently. A plausible argument. They'll all be 34, more or less, next time.

After that come Rigsby-Cavallini and Coyne-Schofield. Then Hannah Brandt. Then Carpenter and Stecklein.

To come at it the other way, US had five players born in 1999 or later, Canada only two.

                  • so not sure i get it...you centralize and pick your best team....then 2 of D hardly play after the round robin (1 min for #4) and #9 playing only 6:57 in the final. ...did you pick wrong? Means you mostly played 4 D. gotta have 6 D minimum to win a tournament like this. Compare to canada....7 D, 6 played in final game....with 6th playing 11+ min. all this time...pick people who can contribute the whole tournament. Dont pick younger players for experience if you are not going to play them. (apologies if all wrong and people were injured) .

Having said that...Congrats to our northern neighbors! it was fun to watch

                    • Canada’s trust in its forward depth and young D was a thing to behold.

Troy Ryan is a head coach at I think Dalhousie in Canada, I know little about USports but have to imagine that program will climb. Because he did a great job, alongside Derraugh and Domenico.

Poulin ——- what on earth? Is there any comparable?

Knight was their best F, I hope she does not digress that much over the next 4 years to the point where she won't be an asset.

                          • The US needs to get more defensive D that get the puck and move it quickly to the right spot tape to tape in the scheme to breakout, physically disrupt the opposing players in the D zone vs just being next to them and don't take too many chances on the other end, or really don't take any at all. I think the ratio of defensive to offensive D should be 4 to 2. Who would we call a pure defensive D on the roster from last night?

Not to minimize the injury or its effects, but reporting around ligament injuries, particularly MCL, is often confused and misleading. "Tear" and "sprain" can get used to describe the same level of injury, even though our reaction to the words is quite different. The description in the USA Today article of "no surgery needed" for an injury suffered on Jan 14 probably means roughly a grade II strain/tear. Some swelling, some instability, maybe four weeks to heal. Quarterbacks will pretty regularly play with grade II sprains, albeit with more limited mobility and braces, etc. A full tear, grade III, would most likely have required surgery.

I did not hear anything about an injury to Rooney which makes me wonder how much she must’ve been struggling in practice to cause the coaches to play Cavallini even though Cavallini was injured.
