Sadly no! She won a silver in 19, then came back to college and had her most productive season ever but was not named to the 2020
roster. Her Twitter says she’s at Lynn University now, playing soccer.

For her to keep improving her senior season but not make the national roster suggests Finland has a lot of confidence in their younger players, so they will also be interesting to watch, especially after the way the last worlds ended. I remember there was some discussion about whether or not Finland was truly closing A gap, or just getting by on the strength of Raty. Although Finland beat Canada to get to the finals, if I recall correctly they got soundly beaten by US and Canada in the early part of the 19 tourney. This go round Finland does have Mercyhurst goalie Jenna Silvonen on the roster. She is also a worlds ‘19 silver medalist.

Finland won the gold medal in 2019. Watch the overtime period again if need be. I am not certain how to link to it, but Tiawan Hockey has the full game, plus many other interesting women's hockey games. YouTube also has the lengthy wait while officials tried to get the "right team" back into the game. I take nothing away from the United States players, but Finland was the better team that day.
Finland beat the United States in the final, but got robbed. That was a disgraceful display of politics trumping the efforts of the teams on the ice. There is NO WAY that the Finnish goal should have been called off. Yes they lost a shootout afterwards, but they had rightly celebrated beating the United States after already knocking Canada out of the finals. Really a terrible series of decisions by officials not on the ice that stole a well deserved gold medal from the Finnish women.

Yes it looks that way. A great hockey career, and witnessed a lot of craziness along the way. She was part of the UND program that got cut, saw her gold turn to silver at 19 worlds, and missed out on her final chance at an NCAA tourney thanks to Covid. Can see how one would need a break after all that. I hope she is having lots of fun in the sun!

          • Haven’t seen this officially anywhere but Michelle Jay of the Ice Garden posted that NHL Network is going to show two pre tournament games on the 18th, USA Russia, and Finland Canada. Also tweeted that NHL Network is going to show the group games of
BOTH Canada and the US for the actual tourney. That is fantastic.

Their group includes Switzerland, Finland and Russia, so a bunch of NCAA or ex NCAA players there.

              • From a hockey newsletter I get, this is a handy list showing the number of years of NCAA eligibility remaining, both for players on Team USA and Team Canada.

Several NCAA players with eligibility remaining will play in this tournament for various countries. Rosters have not been named for each country except for Canada and Team USA. Here’s a look at who from Team USA Team Canada still have NCAA eligibility left. Once additional rosters are names, this list will be updated.
First Last Position Country Last Team NCAA Years left
Cayla Barnes D Team USA Boston College 2
Natalie Buchbinder D Team USA Wisconsin 1
Caroline Harvey D Team USA NAHA White U19 4
Jesse Compher F Team USA Boston University 1
Brita Curl F Team USA Wisconsin 2
Lacey Eden F Team USA Wisconsin 4
Abbey Murphy F Team USA Minnesota 4
Grace Zumwinkle F Team USA Minnesota 1
Sarah Fillier F Team Canada Princeton 2
Ashton Bell D Team Canada Univ. MN-Duluth 1
Emma Maltais F Team Canada Ohio State University 1
                Minnesota Golden Gopher Hockey

                • 19 to 4 in terms of NCAA eligibility years left. 8 players vs 3 players. Wow.

Frankel is back on the roster by the way...Rooney is hurt per her social media. Lots of injuries to both Canada and US in the past several months.

The newsletter D2D referred to is this one: great stuff.

                  • Has anyone been able to find out if Frankel is going to centralize or if she's just filling in for Worlds? As an American I hope she's centralizating and as a BC fan I... also hope she is centralizing.

                    • We'll be on vacation and I don't believe the hotel will have the NHL Network. What are the streaming options (if it's Reddit, you'll need to walk me through it)?

                      Thanks.

                      • Rooney has a partial tear of her MCL 6 weeks out then rehab My guess is Frankel goes back to school and if Rooney takes longer then she gets called in.

Any chance you want to or are able to post a source to allow others to get this newsletter? That info was awesome.

So each player is basically guaranteed just over $100,000, seems reasonable to a midwesterner like me. I wonder how it works for the last few players who get axed on final cuts.
