    • And we're going to 3-on-3 OT...oh boy.

      • And this one ends in a 1-1 tie after five minutes of OT. Penn State led the shots on goal 44-28. Rene Gangarosa blew the 3-on-3 time by taking a really dumb penalty in the offensive zone, which kept Penn State on a 4-on-3 penalty kill for two of the last three minutes of OT. Penn State took eight...eight...penalties, including a 10-minute from Karley Garcia, and Jeff Kampersal better get a handle on that before tomorrow's rematch. Syracuse is a very fast team and really good at long breakout passes, but Penn State played them close and shut down a lot of that quickness. So many chances to score tonight and they just couldn't get past Ariel DeSmet. Josie Bothun made some highlight saves, too.

        • Shots were in the 40's to 28, not sure what game you watched. Bothun only gave up one sh goal. Kampersal can't score for the girls, I'm not sure what he needs to get a handle on. As far as ot, PSU should have scored twice if not three times. The former RMU goalie is tough. The Blocks were where they need to be. That was Machado's biggest goal of her career.

Zanon was awesome on faceoffs 17 wins 6 losses. Announcers were all over someone for not passing, if anything that is what needs to be handled.

His post says shots were 44-28 and Kampersall needs to get a handle on all the penalties PSU took.

            • With tonight's OT tie with Penn State, Syracuse is now alone in first place in the CHA, .004 of a point ahead of Penn State. Here are game recaps from Penn State, Syracuse, and the Daily Collegian.

              • Syracuse and PSU normally combine for a bunch of penalties and yesterday was no different. Kampersal liked PSU's aggressiveness. He went as far as I've seen on the letting the teams play comment. I thought that before the penalty that was called in ot on the PSU player, she was held or interfered with. Connolly and Dobson got a thumbs up from the Coach.

                Big game this afternoon.

                • Game two of the matchup with Syracuse is today at 2:00 (Eastern), on the BTN+ stream here: https://www.bigtenplus.com/en-int/playerpage/1171936

Despite going into last night's game tied with Syracuse for first place in the CHA, and coming out of the game in a tie, Syracuse still took sole possession of first place by a .004-point margin. With this "points percentage" formula for CHA standings, I think the tie at RIT three weeks ago is going to haunt Penn State, as is the cancelled series at Lindenwood - more conference games played (and won) means the kind of tiny boost in percentage points that Syracuse is enjoying right now.

                  • That's some heavy duty analysis and all true, but I'll take the optimistic view, since the team has come back from 1-0 twice in the last three games, very late. That shows the grittiness the team was lacking and this time it was an even strength goal. And lastly after two abysmal OT performances the team has strung together two very nice ot performances. And that was with Dirolagamo on the ice who is a player.

                    • After one period at Penn State, it's 0-0. Syracuse took two penalties and Penn State didn't take any. Penn State leads the shots on goal 19-4. Penn State is doing a really good job of stuffing the usual Syracuse long breakout passing game, and they're getting a lot of time in the Syracuse end. Both goalies look good, like they did last night. Good hockey so far.

Edit: The school band actually showed up for a game...unbelievable. That's the second time I can remember the band coming to a women's hockey game in ten seasons.

                      • After two periods, it's Syracuse up 1-0 on a powerplay goal. Penn State leads the shots on goal 35-16. Syracuse now has four penalties to Penn State's one. Penn State pretty much owned the second period, and they found another gear that's been rare to see but fun to watch when it happens. They were all over Syracuse and causing turnovers in the Syracuse end, and getting all kinds of chances, but Ariel DeSmet is looking as good in net as she did last night. Josie Bothun has made some highlight reel saves, too. This has been fun to watch so far, but Penn State really needs to take this game.

                        • Nice on the band! I'm sure the girls appreciate it. Tough game, Desmet has yet to crack, but they are a knockin.

                          • 6:11 left in the third and Penn State ties it up at 1-1.

                            • And, again, we're heading to a 3-on-3 OT with the game tied 1-1. Penn State leads the shots on goal by an insane 53-18, and Syracuse has blocked an additional 18 shots...unreal.

                              • Syracuse takes it 2-1 in OT on a very sloppy line change from Penn State that gave Syracuse an easy 2-on-1 and left Josie Bothun on her own. Total shots on goal were 56-20 for Penn State. Despite this loss, this was one of the best games I've seen Penn State play this season. They really dictated the play for most of the game, and whatever they figured out after yesterday was put into practice today. It sucks to have to take the loss, but what a game Penn State put in. Attendance was given at over 1400, too, and the band showed up, so it was definitely hockey day at Pegula. This loss kind of kills Penn State's shot at a regular season title and hosting the CHA tournament, so once again it's Syracuse sticking a thorn in Penn State's side.
