Yes, the one guy today had the golden radio voice, good call on giving him a shout-out.

Gotta say, NESN put on a great broadcast today, as did CBS Sports yesterday - great camera work, and great commentary from people who know the game (and didn't slaughter names). UNH is lucky to have them.

I don't know what to take away from this game...there was nothing too glaringly off in Penn State's game. They were aggressive, their passing was way better than last night, their forecheck was strong, and Josie Bothun took care of any bloopers in the defense. Penn State now goes on holiday break, and returns January 1-2 for the "Battle In The 'Burgh" tournament in Pittsburgh, with St. Cloud, Boston University, and Syracuse.
Didn't get to see the stream today but thanks for your description of the game.

UNH's ice is huge. I would have thought his speedsters, Brynes and Carriochi would have been in the lineup with all that ice. Lanto with a nice goal. It's great that the stream is free.

After two, it's Penn State up 2-0 at UNH on a goal from Mikayla Lantto. Shots on goal are 20-13 for Penn State, and Penn State has taken three penalties and UNH has taken two. I think all but one or two shots from UNH have been on the powerplay, including the five minute major in the first, so the Penn State defense is really smothering any good chances for UNH. The defense isn't the only reason UNH can't get anything going offensively, though, because Penn State is doing a great job of forechecking and keeping the puck in the UNH zone, so the defense hasn't really had to do a lot in the Penn State zone.

After one, it's Penn State up 1-0 on UNH on a nice sneaky goal from Alyssa Machado. Penn State took two penalties and UNH took one. The biggie: Lyndie Lobdell took a five-minute game misconduct with 7 minutes to go, but Penn State killed it off. UNH didn't have a shot on goal (or a shot, period) in the first 13 minutes of the game. This one looks like I thought last night would look, so that's good news. UNH didn't do anything offensively until they got the five minute powerplay.

Sorry to hear on the tough to watch game. I just checked the stats. A two week layoff usually spells doom for PSU so that's a positive. It looks like Wallin is back. I noticed they had only 4 blocks and UNH had 23 shots. The blocks are low, the shots are high in my estimation and that needs to be corrected in game two if they want the second game. And it looks like Heising's good deed earlier in the year was repaid by Zanon on the empty netter. Again that's nice to see. A nice shutout, but a goal was waived off or challenged apparently. Great link on the UNH highlights. The next three games for PSU are very important if PSU wants to get back to being ranked.

With tonight's win, Josie Bothun now has the most wins of any goalie in program history, so congratulations to her for that. She really made some critical saves tonight.

Tomorrow should be a different look, hopefully, now that they've gotten their game legs going.
That was a little hard to watch the first two periods. Penn State, as you said, seemed to get a little more flow in the third and finished it off.

After two, it's still 1-0 Penn State. Shots on goal are 17-15 for Penn State, and in that period they took the only penalty of the game so far. Penn State looks tired, rusty, or whatever...just really slow. The top line looks okay, but it's just a really sluggish effort so far. Way too many players are standing still, waiting for pucks, rather than stepping up and going after it, and passing isn't very sharp, either. I think this would be a very different game if it were a home game for Penn State, but that sounds like an excuse.

After one, it's 1-0 Penn State, on a goal actually scored by a UNH defender...but it counts. Lyndie Lobdell sent a pass across the crease, and the UNH defender got her stick down to block it, but ended up deflecting it into her own goal. Penn State leads the shots on goal 10-8, but overall shots are 20-9, so that tells you where a lot of the play has been going on. Neither team had a penalty.

Penn State looks rusty, but still didn't have a lot of trouble. Passing isn't the best so far, but they should settle into the game and get going before long. It's good to see Olivia Wallin finally able to be back on the ice. Of course she's not on the top line, but she's getting her game skates warmed up, anyway.
