  • Fenway Freeze Out: New Hampshire Vs. Northeastern

I just saw this press release, and I am pumped!

Fenway doubleheader to be televised on NESN
    Nov. 19, 2009
    Boston, Mass.

The Hockey East doubleheader at Fenway Park on Jan. 8, 2010 will be televised live on NESN in high-definition, as announced by the conference today. Coverage of the event will begin at 4 p.m. with the Huskies' game against the University of New Hampshire and will conclude six and a half hours later after the Boston University/Boston College men's game.

The opening game between Northeastern and New Hampshire will be the first NCAA women's hockey game to be played outdoors. It will also be just the second-ever hockey game played at historic Fenway Park as the Philadelphia Flyers and Boston Bruins do battle a week earlier at the 2010 NHL Winter Classic.

Northeastern and New Hampshire are fitting participants for the inaugural outdoor women's game. The Huskies have won three ECAC championships and have taken home a record 14 Beanpot titles, including eight straight from 1984-91. The Wildcats have never had a losing season in their 32-year history and have accumulated more wins (676) than any other program in women's hockey history.

Tickets for the Sun Life Frozen Fenway event sold out in just one week.

When the announcement was made on a 90° day in summer, January seemed so far away, but we are just six weeks away from history!

If you don't have / can't get tickets, the UNH Friends of Women's Hockey is raffling off a pair of $50.00 seats. $5.00 for one try, $20.00 for 6 chances. The winner will be drawn at the last UNH home game of 2009, on December 5 against Providence.

E-mail me through USCHO if you want more info.

An interesting way to pass the time during the day, and pass the time as game time gets ever closer.

Re: Fenway Freeze Out: Commemorative Jackets

Turfer has designed a logo for both Northeastern and UNH fans, and will offer it as a custom order on either a black (with red piping) or navy (with silver piping) 2 layer jacket system. Check it out and order here. Note: Deadline is Jan 3, 2010, and they guarantee delivery in time for the game (but not for Christmas)

Nice view. Looks like there is a bunch of people on the ice skating at this moment. Many in Yellow, so it looks like a organized function of some sort.

Interesting to see half the ice surface in full sunshine, the other half in the shade. This could be an interesting issue on a sunny day come game time.

Well, it won't have any effect come January, as the UNH-Northeastern game will be played when the sun is pretty much below the horizon.

Sure didn't take 'em long to get skating on it.

What a difference two days makes. Look at snowy Fenway now. They are clearing the ice.

BTW...Up here in the great white north it is sunny and cold.

Turns out the guys in yellow were former Bruins like Orr, Bourque, Neely, O'Reilly, and Schmidt.

Check out the Winter Classic jersey's they will be wearing. The Boston jersey is definatley a classic take on the original "B" while the Philly jersey doesn't look much different than the white (away) jersey they wear today.

C'mon Philly you had a chance to come up with a classic design and that's the best you could do? Use the same jersey and throw a little more orange at it....I'm sure the Flin Flon Flash will be disapointed!

Honestly they look almost exactly the same as their regular white jersey maybe with a little more orange at the shoulders....weak!

I agree it would be a great time for the College teams to come up with a throw back that they could keep for their third jersey.

Milt Schmidt, Hall of Famer, played before and after WWII, and was GM of the Bs when they won the Stanley Cup in '70.

Also 1/3 of the "Kraut" line with Bauer and Dumart. I beleive Schmidt still holds down 3rd spot with the Bruins most goals in team history?
