I saw the roster earlier today and was surprised there were so many players not returning.

And it took the folks on this board to blow the whistle! We should get a commendation (or is it a condemnation) for all our vigilence!!!!

NEC roster has been posted and list a total of 33 players, including 15 freshmen. Noticed a player from Saint Petersburg, Russia, Zegreb, Croatia, and a couple from Sweden. If some of the guys pan out NEC could be right up there in the standings just like the old days.

    Re: Hawk

Sorry, Jerry...the hawk is all yours! Let hawk know that I am not aware of any conference or division of NCAA athletics where the players have any say in season length.

As for what players want for season length I can't say. I know of 3 Midd hockey players that are still playing Fall sports, among them Nick Resor (football) and the team's 2009-2010 leading scorer Martin Drolet (soccer). Moments ago Midd won the NESCAC men's soccer title on PK's so, given the protracted NCAA soccer playoffs, we are unlilkely to see Drolet on the ice until after the new year. (sorry, no emoticon for mixed emotions!)

If you guys in the leagues that start early are so happy with having played so many games before the Interlock starts, remember, when we start, we will have 25 games left to see, you will have somewhere in the teens. I hope that the new schedule doesn't start too much earlier than the current one. A week or so would be okay.
A lot of good points on the condensed season but has anyone ever asked the players which schedule they would prefer? Competitive college hockey at a high D3 level is a very agressive sport that seems to cause a number of minor injuries. Last year both Middlebury and Norwich had a number of injuries where an extended schedule might of help the rehab process. Also wasn't 3 out of the 4 final four teams non interlock teams that started playing in October. I am looking forward to the early start next year.

WillieC I agree that thoes $20.00 UVM seats will sell on the cheap all year. Just try and get rid of a spare seat prior to game time.

Regarding hte interlock, I have long felt that the condensed interlock schedule better prepared teams fo the playoffs. Always playing two game sets for each weekend to end the season seems (to me) better preparation for the tournament than any other method.

But why spread 24 games out over an extended season, such as, let's say, one of your "other, favorite" teams that will play only 3 games in the first 21 days of January and then tune up for the playoffs with 4 consecutive, single-game weekends in Feb?? Sorry, IMHO, the mad-dash to the conference championship played out over 4 week/8-game finish in Feb. is second only to the big dance for excitement and drama.

But don't worrry, Prez...you can have all the Oct games you want in 2011-2012... and Hawk, enjoy those UVM games...looks like tix will continue to be available, and cheap, for the remainder of this season!

Why is it surprising? The interlock has forced it to be this way for how long?
