9 straight shutouts to end the season…streak that will live in perpetuity…

That was a special Norwich team destined for big things.

      • Amazing season…28-2-1…WOW.

This is especially remarkable given last year’s National Championship…with a 29-2 record.

        57-4-1 over a two-year span…with a “pretty solid” SOS.

We’re not quite in the “amazing” space that St. Norbert, Middlebury, Stevens Point (etc.) deserve, but this alumn couldn’t be more proud (and excited) about what Hobart has done…and where they’re headed.

        Go ‘Bart!!!!

Hobart could return some of the Seniors that have a chance for an extra "Covid" year by attending the Masters in Management or Education . In any case, lots of talent returning, and recruit pool for Class of 2028 is rich. Coach Taylor has earned his luck.
Glad you were able to witness your team accomplish an incredible feat. Know the feeling from 39 years ago (night before Wrestlemania 1) and we only did it once!!! Unfortunately, we just assumed our then still young coach would just keep recruiting guys like Adam Oates and Darrin Puppa and the gravy train would go on into perpetuity. We took it for granted. Next season both of those guys turned pro and poof it was all gone and it has never returned. In fact, today we are not even relevant. Don't repeat that mistake. Stop and smell the roses. Trust me, it will not always be like this.

That being said, your successful multi sports operation probably won't crumble like a Robert Hall suit by next year. Is a potential travel itinerary for 11/2/2024 football in Troy and then run to car to make a banner raising in Geneva??? Saw on the 24-25 schedule tread that Potsdam is at Hobart that day???

              Tony/troy,
I haven't seen the schedules yet, but if November 2 is the first game, that would be a priority for the banner raising. I understand the long wait for the next Championship , as Hobart lacrosse last had a D3 Champion in 1995 ( a few years after the now ancient 12 year consecutive run). We are now just a fairly competitive D1 program that gets crushed by our rivals Syracuse and Cornell annually. The Liberty League has 4 teams in D1 hockey , but I hope we never join you because D3 is fine with me especially after experiencing the finals the last 2 years. As far as football, Hobart usually needs a home field to beat RPI as Isernia is a great coach and giving him home field is that much tougher, so unless it is a beautiful fall traveling day, I'll stick with watching the 2 new banners raised for the NEHC title and the 2024 Natty. I'll be rooting for the Engineers' hockey program to find success in the future.

                Well...

Referencing Oates and Puppa is an extreme case of apples and oranges when it comes to D-1/D-3 recruiting, and professional possibilities. No D-3 program has ever been in the same ballpark as RPI was back then.

Having said that, Hobart was the wire-to-wire best D-3 men's hockey team this year, and last year too. Nothing wrong with that!

I believe there were 9 Seniors on this year's team.

As Bartman called out, some (if not all?) could choose to return...as I believe the Covid year was essentially treated (from an NCAA eligibility standpoint) in the same way as a traditional "Red shirt" season would be. Someone smarter than me can probably clarify that.

Losing all 9 would be a big hit...this was a very strong Senior class. But, Hobart is still loaded with talent/experience and I'm guessing Coach Taylor has plenty of amazing young men lined up to come join the club.

How many of them were honored on senior day? Thats usually a great indicator that theyre leaving.

                      • Hobart will be losing the most from the Defense(5) and some important forwards(4) as well. Every single Senior has been named to the All Academic NEHC and a few have been named to the All American All Academic team. Hopefully a few will take a fifth year, but have not heard yet:

                        Senior Defenders(5)

Austin Mauer, MVP of Championship Tournament 2024
Gagik Malakyan, Injured much of 2023-24, All NEHC 2022-23
Matt Wuth(C), A captain and rock on defense ,All NEHC
Kevin Lassman, solid Senior in D rotation
Jared Patterson(C), A captain and another rock on defense over the years

                        Senior Forwards(4)
Artem Bozoverya(C) Captain and All American this year
                        Jonah Alexander(A) All American 2022-23
Will Crane, winning OT goal in 2023 Championship
Christian Duvall, another solid performer in the forward rotation over the years

The entire Senior group contributed 130 out of the 437 points (30%) in 2023-2024 and back to back National Championships and endured Covid. What a class!!

2024-25 is the last year the Covid year can be applied.

                          • Congratulations to Coach Taylor for being named the USCHO Coach of the year. He has the program exactly where he wants it with skilled players that unselfishly play together and support each other. All of the players love playing for him and each other. They will compete again next year for the Championship. Go'bart
