Utica Hockey more D1 speculation less Fish/Nubs d-baggery

This past year a high level UU administrator told us they want the D1 program with out any doubt, but they have not been able to find the resources to have an entire D1 athletic program. Perhaps that will now become reality

They only need a D2 athletic program and the hockey team can still play D1. Still more money than a D3 athletic program, but not as bad as a D1 athletic program.

Logistically everything is in place for the school to make the move to D2 and the hockey program to make the move to D1. They could do it tomorrow if required. Its the AHA holding things up.

Also its AHA or nothing. They won’t go independent or join a newly formed league.

Sixteen new bodies coming in, remember last years team was seniors and grad students. I think that Covid year has been used up now. This team will be interesting, get them in and start to get together.

Its already been raised and is in place. Anyone close to the community knows the fundraising has been an ongoing thing the past year.

Yes. Because of a loophole -- there is no D2 men's hockey. If there were, then they could not do this. If there is no D2 sport, and you are a D2 institution, you are allowed to play that sport up to D1 with no restrictions.

Not my problem. I was merely correcting an assumption lakont55 made about needing to be D1 in all sports to play hockey at D1.

Whether Utica can afford D1, D2, or D3 or where the money is coming from, I don't give a crap.

Oh come on, what's wrong with an Empire Hockey Conference? Eastern D3 hockey is trying to keep pace with D1 football realignments, why shouldn't Eastern D1 hockey follow suit?

And it wouldn't be that bad of a conference.

Because the ECAC schools will never leave a conference that has Ivy League schools in it, as long as they can maintain the ECAC.
