    • What about Dominick Dawes? Won a natty with Neumann and seems to be doing a great job with Stevenson recruiting people to play at a town rink off campus

Hardly a compelling reason to stay the course.

Dominick Dawes is another candidate. Keith Aucoin also picked up some coaching experience.

At the least, Keith or Kurtis(and maybe Dominick) could be brought in as lead assistants and coach the offense for a year and get promoted.
          Go 'Wick!

Why would he leave a program that is in a better position than Norwich right now

Maybe because he's a national championship winning alum and the Kreitzberg recruiting pitch is a pretty cool one to make despite all the babies making excuses around here. Who the f knows? We're just spitballing because the team pretty much sucks and we want to have hope that it's not going to get worse.

              • Ellsworth does NOT get credit for the national runner-up team. Anyone have Hockenbury’s ear?

He was in the pool after McShane retired and ultimately committee went with Ellsworth over a finalist crew that included TJ Manastersky and Dominick Dawes.

                  • This will be my last post for a while, mostly because the season is over. Feel free to bash me all you want.

I am an Ellsworth supporter. We all agree this team needs to be a LOT better offensively. You guys think it’s because of Cam, I think it’s because of the dramatic shift in the landscape.

I have repeatedly tried to provide “inside info” about the limitations/obstacles the administration has put up in the last few years. Not one thing I told you is BS. Comparing the recruiting environment during Mike’s tenure to the one now is literally apples to oranges. Norwich has become more expensive, and financial aid has gotten much, much worse. As someone who spent many years recruiting, money talks - period. Other schools are increasing resources to hockey while NU is scaling theirs back. There are more viable options to play nationally competitive hockey now than there was. And they’re a lot more affordable. As a former NU hockey assistant told me, without the rink, no one would come to Norwich for hockey anymore.

NU took off when the school made a conscious decision to get good at hockey. Unless they make the decision to re-dedicate themselves to it, it won’t matter who the coach is.

                    • We all are shocked ... Disappointed ... P-ed off right now .
Looking for someone or something to blame.
My two cents ... we need someone like a Rich Schneider at the top ... without that commitment to make things happen Norwich is going to continue that slow slide into mediocrity.
The other thing to keep an eye on .... the changing face of D-3. Hockey leagues. As great as it is the NEHC is in real danger of being torn apart by things beyond hockey's control, and Norwich needs to be ready to act on it or they could get lost in the shuffle.

Flint, I, for one, will not bash you. I’m on record respecting your insights, intel, and observations, and for sharing them. I’ve been angry for at least the last two seasons so I hardly qualify as jumping on the anti-Ellsworth bandwagon over this latest embarrassment. I just disagree with you, which makes neither one of us a bad person. Sure, we can blame the players, referees, ice surface, internet, student section, poor attendance, growing competition, high cost of education, lower financial aid, not playing as a team, inexperienced squad, rural Vermont, the Corps, VT weather, injuries, rising ticket costs, the jerseys, etc.

I’ve been looking for leadership to step up and accept some responsibility for a declining program. I’m a realist in that I certainly don’t expect Ellsworth to announce his resignation, but as head coach, I expect him to accept some responsibility.

New York, Newwwwww York seems to be figuring it out.

                        Enjoy the “off season.”

This is where I think you're dead wrong and it proves you haven't been listening. Fine whatever we can't be what Hobart is anymore because of the current financial climate. I don't think that's what most of us are saying we need to be. This has nothing to do with McShane. I've been watching since Taylor arena and some of those teams had bad wins loss records but do you know what? they played hard. This team we watched lose to Southern Maine last night was lifeless most of the time. Dumping pucks in with no prayer to win them because they were too slow or too tired. Maybe both. It was embarrassing and it does have something to do with the coach.

                          • All I know is, if you were around this season (outside of game hours, including late into the night last night) Ellsworth was pretty GD frustrated with the effort level all year, sat guys more than once because of it, and had much more of an “edge” as a coach than years prior. I walked into Doyle Hall one afternoon to witness him having the guys stand there looking at the banners while “enthusiastically” telling them the effort it takes to win them.

I know I said that was my last post for a while, but the idea that Ellsworth is hunky dory with the lack of intensity is wrong. Again, we all agree that there is an issue (this time it’s all out effort), where we differ is my belief that he can get it fixed.

On topic, that’s what I love about Clark Kerner and Pat O’Neal; full tilt all the time.

Maybe he should listen to his lead recruiter more and get more character guys that are less talented.

                              • On a more positive note...

I was at the Bruins game last Tuesday and during the intermission an Aucoin with the #5 was out there and ended up scoring a goal. It seemed to be too much of a coincidence with all those factors of being in Boston, the name and the number...I texted Keith and sure enough that was his kid out there!

Also, Gabriel Chicoine is currently third in the ECHL in points by a defenseman. 11 goals, 30 assists 41 points in 46 games played. I would think/hope he's on track to get a sniff of the AHL at some point and get a call up to Providence?!
