I appreciate the sarcasm there; funny stuff.

But, could it possibly be that younger people recognize the rampant hypocrisy in all sports better than we did?

      Maybe!

D-1 college sports are going to Hell in a hand-basket, from where I sit. While I'm not opposed to the NIL thing, nor to the portal (in principle) we've already seen how they've created chaos in the money sports. Those outs will strip away any pretense of a level playing field there.

I'm fairly confident that they'll not be any significant money via D-3 hockey to use as bait in the foreseeable future. Even many elite programs (eg. Adrian) cannot possibly be turning a profit.

            • I agree money shouldn't be a big problem in d3 hockey. The biggest problem is the impending enrollment crisis that's gonna start in 2025. It's projected a majority of the closings will be small private colleges in the northeast which is the bulk of d3 hockey. Although not a liberal arts school, and I don't know how probable it might be, it's certainly possible Norwich does not make it out. To be fair it doesn't mean public schools are safe either, I personally think suny Potsdam is gonna merge with canton in the future
Oswego 22' and 23' Student Section Leader 2022-2024. If you heard a weird or offensive chant during an Oswego Hockey Broadcast during that time... odds are my friend Tim and I started it.

I've been saying for years that D1 basketball and football should just admit they are the minor leagues for the NBA and the NFL, and major colleges should just adopt the local team and not even require the facade of the student athlete in D1. Although currently the rest of the sports that cannot sustain themselves on "attendance/eyeballs" , benefit from the revenues created by the money sports. The current NIL war in D! is insane as coaches must recruit and re-recruit players every year and co-ordinate $$ with "booster" groups. Dabo Sweeney at Clemson has tried to recruit just Freshman and maintain his players based on the love of the program, NIL $$ as necessary and remain loyal to his original recruits. Notice that Clemson has fallen as FSU "rent-a player" approach has risen. Probably one reason Lou Saban retired is the current system.
This is why I love D3 sports so much and try to support them......student athletes just playing for the love of the game. When the little "much maligned Cooler" based Hobart Hockey team won the Naty last year, just watching the pure joy of those young men celebrating was priceless.

Ooops, I meant Nick, but Lou was the first coach of the Patriots in 1960 and a Linebacker for the Browns, and a buddy of George Steinbrenner......with all of that is an admission on my part of having too many sports names in my really old brain....and spitting them out randomly. Thanks for reading the post.

                    • Good win last night. Nice to see the team rebound from an early one goal deficit and pour it on a lesser opponent. Big one today vs Skidmore.

It would be nice to see more fans there for such an important game in League Standings. Only 1100 in attendance Last Night

                        • Crazy how much this team keeps yo-yoing back and forth from what appears to be a contender to a pretender and back and forth and back and forth.

If they can find a way to win out rest of the regular season and then make it to conference semis or finals, almost seems like there is a path to an at-large bid again.

Can’t lose more than once though, 2 losses would surely be the death nail into any at-large possibilities.

Good weekend at home where they have proven to be strong all season. The problem has been the away from Kreitzberg record and they’ll have to find a way to get positive results in their last 3 games on the road and then likely at least 1 or 2 road playoff games.

This is simultaneously an “excuse” and a fact.

Inexperienced teams, with talent, tend to be inconsistent. Some nights the talent shows, other nights it disappears. Generally, and hopefully, with experience comes consistency.

I know this. Bryce Walcarius is legit. I’ve heard a lot of praise heaped on Molu (most of it deserved) but I like Walcarius a LOT.

Unfortunately, the Corps has been throughly poisoned against athletics. So they don’t come. Friday night there were about 50 football players, 20 football recruits, 10 rugby players, and a handful of basketball players making up the student section. Not sure there was a single corps kid there who wasn’t an athlete. It’s a real shame.

I’d love to hear more about this if you feel willing to share? I know it’s felt like in the 14 years I’ve been around Norwich this has kind of gone back and forth where the corps
support has been strong and other years not so much.

What has happened recently that has caused this divide?

It’s a shame that the school is so hell bent on being 2/3rds Cops and 1/3rds civilian and wants to prop up athletics constantly on social media yet can’t seem to connect the two factions under Norwich’s banner.
