And my numb-skulled omission of Genny was egregious. Guilty as charged. Genny might actually be the best program up here in recent years.
And, FWIW, I root with great vigor for OSU, Geneseo and Platty in OOC games... (Unless one of them is playing Utica.)

The UMB/Genny winner looks tough, though, either way.
And, just saying here, while we're talking about great programs Upstate, we have to mention Hobart.
HC bailed on Upstate for whatever reason, but that's a great program in the context of the past 20 years or so, despite it's God-awful venue.

D-3 refs are generally God-awful, and today was no exception.
Adrian has talent, but they clutch, grab, hold and slash a la the WWF.
The refs evidently got tired of seeing it, and swallowed their whistles after calling the first four on AC, then called a few "make-up" penalties on Utica, just in the name of some absurd notion of "fairness". They even called a dive on UC when the guy charged with the crime was on his feet.
It was a brutal game to watch, but I'll give the AC goalies credit. They both played very well. (Otherwise, AC would easily have been swept.)Last edited by Fishman'81; 11-02-2021, 01:01 AM.

Unfortunately this has become all too common in D3 hockey. I have seen it for far too many years and truly believe the rougher, dirtier teams are helped by it. Some teams play so atrociously bad that there could be 20 penalties a game on them...at some point the refs start to swallow the whistle but also look at the other team to try and even out the penalty calls....this basically turns into a game being called drastically different for two teams...even favoring the team that pushes the physical/borderline play. If D3 wants to continue to grow they need to penalize this type of play more and encourage clean hockey.
Western teams seem to get the most leeway, especially in National play. As you say, the P/T refs want to "even things out", for no defensible reason.
That's an archaic approach, and it makes for early-90's viewing. D-3 should review their performances, and make personnel moves based on that evidence.
Make no mistake, Adrian has talent. Yet they were out-shot something like 71-38 over the weekend, and still salvaged a split. Furthermore, the refs ignored 10-20 obvious Adrian holds/interferences in Game 2 alone, and right around the puck! Then they whistled UC for phantom penalties
I could go on and on, but I won't. Sounds like sour grapes, I get that... And it sure made for some ****ty hockey, as well.

There are plenty of other teams out this way in the East that carry this type of play to not only pick on Adrian too bad
