Lake State, #43 in last year's D-1's PW, wins 5-3 while outshooting AC 39-24... And no ENG to pad the stats.

We all know college teams vary greatly from yr to yr..............Not a bad showing from the dogs, now playing their fourth game vs D1 team at home Sunday, maybe it's the charm, but at least they are playing hockey, somebody at Adrian has balls enough to let the kids play.........more than I can say for a ton of other organizations.

It's going to cost them well in excess of $200,000. How many DIII schools do you think can truly afford that? For Adrian it's a calculation they feel they need to make since about 75% of their enrollment is either a varsity, JV, or club team athlete. Trust me, the extra cost is THE main reason the various DIII conferences are canceling the winter sports seasons. And, you can look for the three western conferences to likely cancel their conference seasons (some schools may try to play "non-conference" games) within the next two weeks. There's a good chance Adrian will continue to pick up games against DI teams through the season. I know UAF was looking at possibly bringing them up to Fairbanks in December but, they chose not to spend the money required to fly them up as they hadn't budgeted for those types of expenses prior to the New Year -- their only 4 games in December were supposed to be against UAA so, when they bailed on the season, UAF was without any games the first half.Last edited by bakdraft21; 11-29-2020, 11:06 AM.

Hey Prez you guys laying out 200k for the season at Norwich????
Most of your responses speak as if its the team’s choice whether they can play or not

I happen to have a close relationship to a DIII conference commissioner and he is the one telling me it's about the cost of testing. You realize that these schools can't rely on testing in their greater communities as the delays in getting results are too long to be effective. And...you can't guarantee an athlete, or trainer, or coach, or off-ice official, or more importantly, on-ice officials can get tested in the appropriate time lines. Remember, officials are technically independent contractors. This is especially true at the DIII level.
The DI officials are testing two and three times per week and those are at home tests, paid for by the conferences. Then, some of the conferences have the officials taking a quick test at the door of the arena before each game so they can be allowed in. There are limited staffs in those conferences which makes it doable. The DIII staffs have as many as 200 different officials working their games in a season. And, none of the DIII schools are willing to pay for the testing of the officials. The linesmen in a DIII series only make $250 total for both games. And, if they travel, the DIII conferences rarely pay more than $.25 a mile for mileage. Nor do they (the referees or linesmen) get any per diem. Now they're going to be asked to take time out of their real jobs to find a place to get a test, AND pay for it out of their own pockets?!?
The tests cost about $125 each at 2 times per week times a total of say 30 players and staff per program. That's $7,500 per week -- for one sport! The average DIII team's season is 20 weeks. That's a total of $150,000 just for hockey... So no, the vast majority of DIII schools -- especially the state/public schools -- cannot afford that. And, for the private schools; those with sizable endowments aren't usually allowed to use any of that money for athletics.
Finally, although waivers are sometimes useful in lawsuit protection, I believe the NCAA mandated that schools could not ask athletes to sign Covid waivers across the board. That's why the schools feel they either follow the testing protocols to the letter, or don't play.

Pretty impressive job by Adrian to battle Lake Superior State this weekend to two really close games.
Lost 2-1 to LSSU today and was outshot 22-21.
I hope they keep getting chances to play Division I teams and can knock off one. Good for them and I think they are showing that top D-III teams can compete with the lower tier D1 teams, even though they haven't been able to pick up a win yet.The Poster Formerly Known as Purple_and_Gold10©

Speaking of Dogs, Last years Dogs Balsamo and Colatarci headed to Tulsa a few days ago to see if they can stick in the coast league,,, Wishing them the best as this appears to be a really complicated year to break into the professional ranks . There are so many guys out there right now without teams (due to shutdowns).
