This. 1k capacity plus SRO, on campus. What's the old Schuldes Sports Center called these days? There used to be a parking lot behind it (to the south?) Always thought that was the spot that made the most sense, or down the road adjacent to the football facility.

Coach wanted it on campus too; the school says that can't happen because they don't have the land for it.

There's still a decent crowd that could grow larger in interest in the new rink. On top of all that, think of the recruiting benefits. Being able to show off your flashy new weight room/training facilities will be a boon for both the men and women.

Now that I'm thinking about it, it could draw an Eastern team or two to make the trip out west.
They played Lawrence on a Saturday night at the end of January and the attendance was 528, so it wasn't half empty, it was two-thirds empty.
I agree with your other points, but from a fan experience perspective, if I was designing a new rink for just SNC it would seat 1k max with maybe some standing room only capacity.

They have a hard enough time drawing 500 fans for anything other than an NCAA tournament game. Add on the history they have at that rink.

On the other hand, it would make a great host for a D3 frozen four...

Fundraising for a new rink at Cornerstore, where SNC men would play, gets a boost from the county. Would be about 3,000 seats, compared to the 1,700 now.

10 years ago today. I'm hoping for a similar result this weekend.
