Out of curiosity I checked; Alex Hicks was not drafted.

But, surprisingly, Guy Hebert was drafted after his sophomore season at Hamilton then returned for his junior and senior seasons. Looking at his stats, his NHL career was even more successful than I remembered. I think it may be safe to say he will be the last 5'11" D3 goaltender to ever be drafted...

          That's actually pretty cool...

There weren't too many goaltenders in the NHL in the early/mid nineties with 50+ starts and sub 3.00 GAA's.

Berenguer was a wonderful player at Hamline, but he was not the one I was thinking of. This still had my attention, so I went and looked it up. The one I was thinking of was Troy Hesketh, who was a 3rd round pick of Edmonton. He played in 19 games that season for Hamline, and then his career promptly went onto the side of a milk carton.

Just noticed that Endicott defeated Babson 3-2 over the weekend and wondered how a first year program could win over Bowdoin and Babson in there first year of hockey. Babson was considered one of the top 2-3 teams in New England. The roster also is made up of freshmen with a few exceptions which is very impressive although 8 of the freshmen were from the NAHL, a highly rated junior A league.

Does anyone have a little insight how a first year program could push it's way into one of the top teams in New England. Coach Tolan must be one heck of a coach and recruiter. The ECAC Northeast is turning intro a very strong D3 hockey league.

But don't you think the coach has done a great job with a first year program? Look at Castleton still struggling while Endicott is beating teams like Bowdoin, Salem State, and Babson.

Having a brand new on-campus facility and hiring a recruiting savy coach seem to be the recipe for first year program success...

                            Re: Endicott College

Coach is a great recruiter/great coach but has had more than full year to recruit kids to a school that has put the money and support into the program. They have one of the nicest campuses in New England and the facilities are tremendous and they just had a new rink built and offer great financial aid packages support and President and Athletic Director are in full support of both the men's and women's programs. Also the ratio of female to males is much higher than the average college and I think they did it right building the program just like Adrian did if you are a good hockey player you get in. I also believe they have at least one full time assistant coach which makes huge difference along with being accepted into a conference right away. Castleton started out slow for the first 2-3 years before a real good coach came in and convinced them to buy the Rink in Rutland and that the school should get some sort of international diversity scholarships and he recruited hard up in Canada. It is not that hard to get players out of the top Jr. A leagues if you are an Endicott. Castleton has struggled this year but they have been very good for several years and the rink has helped them along with Alex Todd getting the program established. It took Neumann several years to get pretty good and establish itself and again it took a discussion with administration to understand the landscape of ice hockey and Neumann in the mid 2000's came up with a great financial aid package for Canadian students and the new coach cut every kid on the roster and brought in 25 new players from Jr. A leagues in Canada a few years later the bulk of that recruiting class won the National Championship. The more organized the athletic department and administration is to listen to the coach and find out what is needed to develop a successful program and then give them all of the tools and facilities and full support then you can instantly see the success. Adrian did it the right way and look where they are at. It took Neumann about four years and a new coach to reiterate what the old coach had told administration what needed to be done. It took Castleton three or four years and a new coach to reiterate what the old coach had told administration what needed to be done.
