    That's great.....really great.

Now that NESCAC hockey is back, it will be interesting to see if Trinity, Williams, Amherst and Bowdoin can keep the top four spots locked up by playing solid hockey and taking care of business. I'd expect, unlike other seasons, that these teams maintain home ice advantage by playing well and using all of their horses wisely.

What grades do these recruits need? Do they get much leverage?
Ive heard a few of them are SAT optional (Conn College, Bowdoin, Wesleyan) but the recruits at the remaining Nescac schools need high scores im sure?!

          Weekend winners (maybe)

Mules and Lord Jeffs meet up after coming off non-conference wins this week. Colby routed Salem State and Amherst gets by a highly ranked Babson team.

          Friday Jan 9
Amherst over Colby in a close game
          Bowdoin beats Hamilton
          Williams too much for Wesleyan
          Trinity at home over Middlebury

          Saturday Jan 10
          Bowdoin over Amherst
Colby finds a way for their first conference win at Hamilton
          Middlebury beats Wesleyan
Trinity and Williams in close matchup - tie maybe
ConnColl and Tufts both get non-conference wins

3-0-1 for Friday. Picks are in but I feel less confident about Colby and Bowdoin. Mules appeared outclassed and Bowdoin was fortunate to pull out a tie.

But in the end you nailed it - Colby did find a way to win.

Here's the weird thing about the Mules, their biggest question mark is goal-tending. Just when they think they have found the right guy out of three, they get touched up for a bunch of goals. Yet, about halfway through the season, they have two shutouts. They had none all last year.

Freshmen and Sophomores continue to supply the scoring. They are gaining confidence. I look for a strong finish this year, and, if the recruiting continues to go well, they will be back at the top of the NESCAC over the next few years.

It is interesting to listen to the play by play of a Midd-Platts game both times this year. You hear names like Constantine and Finney on Plattsburgh (in the first game) and it reminds me of Panther teams of the past. Brian Phinney and Ryan Constantine.

Yes Sir!! 5-0-2 last 7 taking out ranked opponents Bowdoin, Umass-Boston and now Amherst along the way. Last night the Camels completely confounded the Jeffs with their close checking style. Caught the webcast and the announcers commented on several occasions on how Conn did not allow Amherst skaters room to maneuver. It made for an ugly game but it was played the way the Camels wanted and it paid off. Standout junior goalie Dave Cunningham was hurt in the game and that could be a big factor for Amherst if he is out for while. The back-up has been solid, but there is plenty of the season left.

Anybody know what happened to Matt Silicoff? He is no longer on the Midd roster.

I was told three weeks ago that Silcoff had left the team but is still at Midd. No reason given.

I find it hard to believe that this thread is discussing a Panther player who quit the team a month ago! Didn't anyone notice that Middlebury defeated two highly ranked teams this weekend? It was a wonderful thing to watch! Finally, Midd has solid goal tending in Klein! The young team in front of him is really beginning to gel! Cheer Boys Cheer!

Congratulations to Williams for bettering Middlebury's performance against the Cardinals.

I was impressed with the way Midd played against Norwich. Klein made some spectacular saves, help by having a real D in front of him. The real test will be next weekend when the Bears come to town.

                                Overall Colby Goaltending Statistics

                                Emerson Verrier Fr 0-6-1 (W-L-T) 4.8425(GAA) .844(Sv %) 0 Shutouts
                                Jordan Nathan Sr 2-1-1 (W-L-T) 3.1701(GAA) .898(Sv %) 1 Shutout
                                Sam Parker Sr 3-1-0 (W-L-T) 2.0065(GAA) .919(Sv %) 1 Shutout

If you were looking for a starting goaltender, which one of these guys would see the most minutes? It seems like the coach is looking for next year's goalie. Maybe that's the smart approach, but it sure is painful. They virtually conceded the Trinity game by starting the Freshman, after Parker had another good game (well, except for that bonehead play on the first Wesleyan goal) the night before.
