Tom Healey of the Rutland Herald reported today that Alex Todd was leaving Castleton and going to D1 Nebraska-Omaha. I personally thought Coach Todd did an outstanding job that brought Castleton from an 0-25 team to one of the strongest D3 teams in New England. During his time at Castleton the college purchased Spartan Arena and made it into an outstanding D3 hockey rink. I liked going to Castleton games which were always competitive.
Big question who is going to take his place and keep the program quality at a high level. My first choice if I was the AD would be the assistant at Plattsburgh, however, with its own campus rink I would think lots of quality coaches would be coming out of the woodwork to go after the job. Castleton has not been successful in getting past Plattsburgh and Norwich but maybe with a new coach they can reach that goal. But this news was still a shocker to me. I would post the Rutland Herald link but can not do so since site is behind a pay wall. I guess things are never dull in ECAC E.
