Fish - You sound a bit less pessimistic than 3 weeks ago.

Appears as though the Utica franchise recently named a coach and by the looks of THIS map, it's no wonder they were scouting a place in the East. Travel costs, some background rationale for the move, and the prospects of leaving for Abbotsford are detailed in THIS story.

        2. I was referring to the AHL as a stepping-stone. Clearly D-3 is not a conduit to the professional ranks 99% of the time. (You do know that, right?)

        3. You really shouldn't insult janitors. It's honest work, and pretty-much every janitor I've ever known is far more literate than you.

        4. No, while I was a 3-sport guy in HS, I never lived anywhere where there was ice or hockey. Guilty as charged. Doesn't mean I haven't become a student of the game in the meantime, if not a student of the sometimes-silly D-3 process. If you have ever made an actual hockey observation, as opposed to just sniping at Utica, I've yet to see it.

(Please start your own thread to regale whomever about your playing days, if there were any... You contribute nothing to this topic at all.)
        1. See that's what you don't get, some of us are not fans of just one particular team, but fans of the game. I've been to more games with Plattsburgh NOT playing then Utica has played away games (okay maybe a few more). So take your "stay off our thread" and wash some counters and scoop some potatoes for the Blue Plate Special....

        2. "D-3 hockey, as humble as it is, is a destination... minor-league hockey, a mere stepping-stone" sure looks like you're calling D3 hockey a destination, minor-league hockey, and a mere stepping-stone.

        3. Spare me with your attempt....

        4. See now it all makes sense. Arm chair defensemen who's never played a single game of competitive puck even at the lower level. It doesn't matter what we tell you because unless its "Utica is the all mighty" they are wrong. Even when proven right, still wrong. And when your "right" is wrong, you never meant the "right". I've actually written several recaps of more games that didn't include Plattsburgh then you've probably seen. Even a couple on your beloved UC. Then again, I wouldn't expect you to read it because you probably wouldn't understand. People have put things in the most simplest terms and you still can grasp things. Be it on the ice, or off the ice. At least you give most of us comedy relief with all your "knowledge" and wisdom and how you could change the hockey world.

I hate to side with Fishman, but that's not what he meant. I understood what he was getting at when he first wrote that line. It's the punctuation that probably messed you up.

He was referring to D3 hockey as a destination. Minor league hockey as a stepping stone. He probably should have made it two separate sentences so as not to be confusing.

As I wrote in a similar post, you nailed Fishman's modus operandi perfectly.

Also, when he gets nailed in an argument, he resorts to, "Your statement apparently presupposes that I lend any credence to the silly manner in which D-3 does things off the ice. (I don't.)"

Of course, conveniently forgetting that he tries to use many facts and data points from "things off the ice" to try and prove his points. Until he gets proven wrong, whereupon he resorts back to "Your statement apparently presupposes that I lend any credence to the silly manner in which D-3 does things off the ice. (I don't.)"

It's a wonderful debating strategy he uses. He's either a woman or was masterfully trained by one...

Gosh, are you and your buddies still doing the circle -j*** thing here..?

No, I don't think that I've ever had the misfortune to read any of your game-accounts. Why would I bother? (If you've ever written two sentences without including a spelling/grammatical error in your entire life, send me a link. In the meantime, set the bottle down, employ spell-check, and have your mom edit your posts.)

Jackslow being a "former" USCHO correspondent is good news as well. Neither of you guys possesses the requisite level of objectivity required to be a credible reporter. (Norm's feeble puns- as weak as they may be- are innocuous by comparison, and easily ignored.)

Guys, consider getting out of the basement and doing something aside from bashing Utica hockey. It's summer, after all, and there's a great big world to explore that has nothing at all to do with angry sniping at a team that none of you care about.

Can you three really be that unhappy and frustrated..? As a humanitarian, I hope not.

Oh, I'm having a great summer, thank you very much.

A few weeks ago I was at Mid-Ohio driving the pace car for the Sportscar Vintage Racing Association event. Then the following, 4th of July, weekend, I was at Lime Rock, CT, to cover the American Le Mans Series. The weekend after that I was supposed to be at New Jersey Motorsports Park to do pace car duties again, but they "furloughed" me since entries were so low and they had to save some money. Tomorrow, I head up to Mosport in Canada to cover another ALMS event. Then, on Tuesday, weather permitting, I'm going to Rolling Wheels Raceway to watch the World of Outlaws.

In fact, I'll be hooking up with Caveman at Rolling Wheels, one of your Utica Pioneeers brethren. You see, I can hang out with Utica fans ... sane, smart ones...

There you go: out and about and (hopefully) wearing hearing-protection... All that noise can addle a person's brains, they say.

Keep on having a great summer. God knows it's short enough.

Thanks for the links; they were good reads.

Vancouver's decision is making more sense with every passing day, as long as they don't expect much in terms of the gate in Utica... Sounds like Abbotsford is still their venue of choice, though.

As Ray Biggs pointed out further back in this thread, things might well work out for everyone involved, even if the Canucks flee after a single season... ("Everyone", aside from the routinely-screwed NY taxpayer, that is.)

I don't care what happens with the Comets as long as UC still has a fan-friendly schedule, and I'm buying my season-tickets again this year.

                        So far, so good.

At first glance spending a couple of million on what might turn out to be a fly by night operation might appear to be another 'routine-screwing of NY taxpayer', however, if it adds enough years to the "aging facility", it might be a blessing in disguise (as the fly by night operation clearly isn't the only potential benefactor).

You're going to brave Rolling Wheels after this week? That place is a freakn dust bowl after a week long rain storm let alone 90+ degrees. Head to LVS. Nice wreck Smoke was in at CMP. You need to come out West and join Petty and I in some asphalt racing. Huge weekend in Laker Land this weekend. Its amazing we can do this and still hold down a full time job. They do say the basement is much cooler during the summer months. Thanks for the tip.

The facility is actually in better-than-decent shape, Norm... As far as D-3 venues go, it's a relative palace as far as what I've seen, though I've never been to Oswego's newer rink.

Believe me, I'm not a Tea-Party guy, but it kinda confounds me that The Aud can't take of itself considering that UC sells the place out 16 times a year, and considering all the rest of the events that happen there.

Looks like a bad business model to me.

I know how much much Utica gets out, so as someone whos seen a good majority of DIII rinks Utica, while not Oswego, Norwich, Middlebury, Plattsburgh, Bowdoin ect, it's also not Hobart, Amherst, Williams, or Fredonia either. Aging would be a good word to give to Utica. While the roof isn't caving in, a facelift wouldn't be such a bad thing. Just make sure I can put an indoor race there in the upcoming years please.
